It was essentially a theme based fancy dress party and the fact people ' wouldn't get away with it with other religions' is more of a problem than that this took place. You can't expect anyone to either believe in or respect other people's potential fairy tales (although personally I try not to offend anyone unless absolutely necessary), but really if the Catholic church is going to be offended then it needs to be offended by it's own brutal complacency at being the richest organisation in the world when the world is still going to hell, in some areas with their absolute assistance.

I'd understand the outrage if there had been shady looking sorts dressed as priests being pursued by others in police uniforms and not just some bored looking slebs in daft clothes.

I agree. This event has mocked the deeply held religious beliefs of 1.2 billion Roman Catholics. There's a difference between artistic freedom and artistic licence.

I hope there aren't any serious repercussions on the organisers of this event, or on the stars who witlessly participated.

All religions, and anyone stupid enough the believe in them, should be mocked mercilessly at every available opportunity. Religion should never be 'respected'; it should only be reviled and, ultimately, destroyed.

No - the Vatican helped with the exhibition, not the fancy dress of those attending.

The Met is a museum and as such hosts a massive celebrity party in May each year. The Church only helped with the citation of the exhibits.

As a Catholic I would be being hypocritical if I criticised this year's event - I haven't criticised their choice of themes in the past.

I don't think all of the outfits look good but it's ephemeral and will pass.

Isn't mimicry a form of flattery ? Appropriation indeed (rolls eyes). Why should anyone care ? Is the believers' faith that weak ? Maybe we should bring in the death penalty for blasphemy while we're about it. Some folk need to get a grip. Arty farty folk do daft things like dressing up. They can't help it; it's in their nature.
