Meghan Markle has outlined her feminist credentials and declared her commitment to gender equality. Is t right that a member of the British royal family - who’ve traditionally stayed right out of such issues - should be allowed to take such a stance? Have the senior royals made a huge error in allowing her such freedom so early on in her royal life? Are they fearful of saying no to her already, in a similar way to political correctness strongly affecting the U.K. as a whole? Is this the direction the monarchy - who are unelected, let’s not forget - should be heading in?

I stand corrected - let's say 'marrying into the Royal Family' and leave it at that.
Apart from the going out alone, which is a security issue, I think the rest of the list are about public behaviour and not what is required in private.
Compared with her father-in-law's disgraceful behaviour, I think she's a shining beacon of behavioural guidance.
I've thought since the beginning of this romance that voicing her controversial opinions will be her downfall.
She was speaking about gender equality from the age of eleven, so this is nothing new.
It may well be a security issue for her to go out alone. Not denying that but just to think she will never again have the spontaneity of just going wherever and whenever without having to have someone with her.
What is controversial about her statement?
There is nothing wrong with her statement per se. However the Royal family need to remain neutral so she needs to be careful.

If she does it in the background and does not take sides in any debate than she will be ok, but I'm not sure she will do that and that could be her downfall.
Exactly, ymb. The opinions she voices in public don’t stop at simple gender equality.
How long do you give this marriage? I say 7 years - max.
'Not wearing wedge heels'. Really? I'm sure I've seen HRH Kate wearing wedges.

Spath how clever of you to know what she wants is the complete opposite of what she says.

How dare a person of her standing talk about equality.

How do you know what her behaviour has been like? For all we know compared to her, Prince Charles has been a saint.
aog, you've missed a bit. She's talking about 'gender' equality.

By the same right that allows you to question her actions. It is called freedom of speech.
