Meghan Markle has outlined her feminist credentials and declared her commitment to gender equality. Is t right that a member of the British royal family - who’ve traditionally stayed right out of such issues - should be allowed to take such a stance? Have the senior royals made a huge error in allowing her such freedom so early on in her royal life? Are they fearful of saying no to her already, in a similar way to political correctness strongly affecting the U.K. as a whole? Is this the direction the monarchy - who are unelected, let’s not forget - should be heading in?

Oh so wanting gender equality is wrong now is it?
I'd like to see any member of the royal family announce that they were not in favour of gender equality. I can think of one old grouch who might do it, but I doubt anyone under the age of 60 will disagree with her.
Yawn...
A nine day wonder. I doubt we'll see her on the barricades once somebody has a quiet word.
"Have the senior royals made a huge error in allowing her such freedom so early on in her royal life?"

That's quite a breathtaking statement. She's a 36 year old woman who has a mind of her own.
It’s very much the direction the monarchy should be heading in if they want to remain relevant and not seen as an anachronism. The world is changing fast and they need to keep pace. Meghan is a welcome vehicle in carrying this out.
Either she's a feminist concerned with benefit for females, or she is interested in equality. She can't do both.
Yes, it is absolutely the right direction to be heading in.
there is absolutely nothing wrong with gender equality.

the problem I have with this is that she is now a member of a parasite family so she should shut the chuff up!
A feminist means wanting equality, og.
Virtue signalling, in a very big way.
They knew who they were getting...its not as though she has ever pretended to be anything but who she is.
where ws this vernon? Shouldn't they still be in bed, rather than making public statements?
It is about time that members of that family stopped being so beige....they are a tediously boring lot. They need someone to move them into the 20th century.....they might not take so long in reaching the 21st as they have getting to the 20th
Oh I do so hate "virtue signalling"......if she's the breath of fresh air she seems it won't do your royal family any harm at all....x
" allowed "...???
I read an article listing all the things she won't be allowed to do now that she is a member of the Royal Family. --
Not go out on her own, never sit cross legged in public,no see-through clothes or wedge heels,no social media accounts,if eating at the same table as the Queen she will have to stop eating when the Queen finishes her meal and when a group of them are entering a room they go in pecking order. The Queen and Philip first, Charles and Camilla, William and Kate and then Harry and Meghan. Lots of other things she won't be able to do but I can't remember them. Her life is going to change dramatically.
andres - I am sure that she is entirely aware of what she is taking on in terms of being a princess, and she has elected to go for it to be with the man she loves.

The world has moved on in leaps and bounds since Diana was a lamb to the slaughter, Meghan is far more switched on, worldly wise and savvy about what is going on, she will cope just fine.
