We go out and hunt fish for eating. So if you eat seafood you are as guilty as the Japanese. I am sure that if it was possible to farm whales in the way we farm Salmon ,Sea Trout or Halibut for example the Japanese would do it as it would be far cheaper. The Japanese say that they only take a 'sustainable' number of whales. The exact same argument that is used to justify commercial fishing.
Other Asian nations eat things that we find unacceptable.Korea farms and hunts dogs as food.China eats cats and boils them alive at the table as they say it is the only way to get the right taste.
Finally as the link says, the eating of whale meat is becoming much less popular with far fewer places selling it. Japan first started eating whale meat out of necessity. After the devastation it suffered in WW2 there was no other source of meat / protein So it was eat whale or starve. 'Conventional' meat is taking over ,Japan now prefers Beef, Lamb,Pork,Chicken to Whale.

The thing is the Minke whale is not endangered, they purely want them for their meat [I wonder how much a whale foetus sells for on the black market?].
In that sense that makes the Japanese no worse than those who breed dogs to eat... or pigs. You get the picture.
How do we stop it? We can't.
If you feel you have the moral right to rock up to Japan and tell them they can't eat whale and dolphin meat then you have to take a look at what you eat yourself.
Love seafood, a nice bit of fish? The fishing industry is as bad as the meat industry. It is killing our oceans.
That baby whale you want to save is often killed anyway as a by-product of the mile long nets used to catch your fish.
It was said above.. if I thought about where my food came from I would never eat [insert animal here]. If you want to 'Save the Whale' you HAVE to start thinking about it!
