He is young at 28 to be the Lord Mayor. There are plenty of muslim Mayors in the country But they are usually Asian, not African. Better wait and see how her performs before dissing him for his look.

Saw him the other day, seemed a likeable chap and it's only a Mayor so what does it matter one way or another?

What does strike me as odd is banging on about his religion and place of origin.

I guess it is the Dick Whittington angle. Poor boy from nowhere becomes Mayor of the big city. Only with a 21st Century twist - Somalian refugee succeedsagainst the odds.

Not sure of the actual value of "succeeds" though. He is only Mayor of a minor City. He'll need to do a lot more than that to put food on the table.

But like I say he seems an affable chap so I hope he does succeed in life.

My friend is the Mayor of Northampton. Not sure what his job entails. He started off with a burger van.

He seems alright to me. I don't think much of the stuffy people who said the Lord Mayor should only be a 'person of white English descent'.

He will not run anything, or have any power. He doesn’t do anything except turn up to civic functions.

Think about it, just the same as someone in Africa starting a thread about the election of a white leader in their village.

jno, it's not just the colour of his skin it is the way he is trying to put a more modern feel to the post.

Not everything is about race even though you seem to want it to be.
