ChillDoubt, I pay VED on my car and motorcycle, why shouldn't you pay VED on your bicycle which is also a vehicle? It doesn't have to be motorised, even a sledge is a vehicle.

(Sigh) For the hard of understanding, please read the earlier link. My bicycle (just like many modern vehicles on the road) would fall into Category A which means that I would not be required to pay VED.
As I said earlier, I do however pay it for the car that I own.
I passed a lady riding a horse earlier and guess what? Her and Mr Gee-gee wouldn’t have to pay either!! How unfair is that?!?!
Please think and research before posting on this subject, I implore you.
NOBODY pays ROAD TAX because NO SUCH TAX EXISTS. Vehicle owners pay for a VEL but many cars, bicycles, horses, motor scooters, sledges(not seen many sledges on roads but I’ll keep an eye out, sounds like a major infringement of the Road Traffic Act), soap-box carts and roller blades do not, they are not obliged to BY LAW.
Here endeth the sermon, I trust I have amused and enlightened you, though I sincerely doubt the former!
