irrelevant Douglas ... and some would say not unusual business practice
The vast majority of politicians dont run 500 or so companies.

6 bankruptcies out of that is not bad going.
We'll see, in the fullness of time, meaning about a month in Trump terms.
Trump giving an excellent, positive, hopeful and visionary speech right now. Every credit to him for making this happen.
Douglas, this will take far longer than a month and even if President Trump holds office for anotehr term I doubt it would be 100% there.

There will be ups and downs, agreements on and off, at least I dearly hope so because that's how lasting negotiations work. One side or the other capitulating and agreeing too fast will cause issues in their respective countries.

All we need is the general direction going in peace for the present.
Spungle, I think we should also give credit to KJU. He is taking a pretty massive gamble that could end with him paying for any even perceived error with his life. Whilst I also praise the POTUS all he really has to loose is another term.
Why am I not convinced by any of that I wonder? Am I just an old misery guts?

very airy fairy and fine words
dsepends what comes out of it - Kim wants something in return for denuclearising
and some are saying - well he wont of course - it is all rhetoric
// The vast majority of politicians dont run 500 or so companies. 6 bankruptcies out of that is not bad going.//

foo! when does he find time to run the country ?

OR
it is like saying
The vast majority of doctors dont have 500 patients.
6 deaths out of that is not bad going.
after all they're all ill and gonna die sometime

reassuring that - foo!
A Korean expert I saw interviewed the other day - who obviously had an exceptionally low opinion of both men especially Kim - calmly dismissed the idea that the latter was doing anything other than taking a tactical time out and that Trump was being fooled. Surely not. We shall see.
Peter Pedant

/// Kim wants something in return for denuclearising ///

Of course he does, he wants sanctions lifting so that he can drag his nation out of isolation and build his nation up to be a world competitor just like India and China.
minty; "well he says it how he sees it..and even if you don't concur..it is rather refreshing to have such an open and direct approach" - the right on brigade hate that, they profess to hate politicians but actually they demand them, they hate straight talking, they love political waffle. Trump does none of that, he's not a politician but he's cutting through the cack more effectively than any politician could. They hate that even more. Wish we had him doing Brexit for us.
A month for it to turn to dust, youngmafbog.

TTT that would be interesting !
In my old age I have become increasingly cynical about world leaders. I see this as Kim Jong Un 1 and Donald Trump 0. North Korea will give up developing nuclear weapons in North Korea but will continue in China. Meanwhile they will bleed America of trillions of dollars. If you can't destroy a country by force then at least hit them in their pocket.
In this case, at least, the point isn't what you think of Trump but what you think of Kim. It's hard to know how seriously to take North Korea's recent progress. If they're being genuine, then it's brilliant to see. If not, then Trump is being played for a fool.

I don't think anyone wants to see this fail, and we all hope that Trump can pull it off.

One thing worth noting is that the agreement that was signed between the two has apparently been rubbished almost universally as devoid of any meaningful content. I haven't read it myself, but if that's true then this would only have the appearance of progress. That benefits Kim, and North Korea, rather massively. I hope the experts have misjudged things.
"I don't think anyone wants to see this fail, and we all hope that Trump can pull it off."

I take my hat off to you jim.

"rubbished almost universally as devoid of any meaningful content."

In such a short period of time would you expect anything else? I certainly dont and if it has then I would be very suspicious.
This is simply the first meeting but nonetheless a small but very significant step in a process that cold take a decade or more.

Vulcan, "North Korea will give up developing nuclear weapons in North Korea but will continue in China. "
China already have nukes.
Can you imaging if it had been Obama signing this deal instead of Trump? He would be hailed as the greatest president ever and no doubt made a Saint.
" Vulcan, "North Korea will give up developing nuclear weapons in North Korea but will continue in China. "
China already have nukes."
Yes, I know that, where better than a friendly country who already has the facilities North Korea need to continue developing their own weapons.
So why didnt they do that before then?

And what to develop in China, the Chinese could just hand them the details.

Personally I suspect China dont want them to have Nukes either - right on their doorstep.
" So why didnt they do that before then? "
How do we know they didn't?
