'It is only you who has mentioned the ladies colour, which says much more of you, than it ever could of me'

Then could you tell me what you meant in your 13:50 post about her knowing Colston?
//You see when one puts something positive in one's post, there are some who still get upset, because they can't turn the post into yet another anti-AOG thread. //

'...get upset'... ?
Why would I be upset about that ?
Why not just put up a painting of another less controversial Bristolian, Vaughn Williams, or Ernest Bevin, perhaps
I like the lion, a bit of modern art in an old stuffy office.
Rowan. Any change today with red, excuse me aog using your thread.

It was a sarcastic remark, just the same as a great number of persons, black, white or in between, wouldn't recognise a 300 year portrait of someone, unless they were better well known and I don't think that our Edward Colston has that privilege.
The lion is appalling, if she wants a lion she should at least find one that is well executed.

Well you seemed upset enough to point it out.

If not why did you bother, it was hardly constructive, now was it?
I cannot foresee an occasion when i will ever be in her office, so it matters not a jot to me what she hangs on her wall.
But you said she WOULD recognise it. What special qualities does this lady have that might make her recognise Colston and know about the slave trade?
I think the picture's ok & see nothing wrong with moving the other one to the museum.

For those that can't see the lion -

The entire maritime history of the Port of Bristol is tied into the slave trade. The slave trade is what made Bristol what it is today. Without the slave trade Bristol would still be a small village that once had a fishing fleet.
But I can't talk, 200 years ago my family owned a shipping line based in Bristol, all our ships were used in the slave trade. As were 90% of all Bristol based ships at that time. As AOG says she has a point, but much more needs to be done to project a more PC picture of Bristols past . Bristol was once regarded as the world's finest Port, that's where the saying ''All Ship Shape & Bristol Fashion'' comes from.
“....Colston's brother Thomas supplied the glass beads that were used to buy the slaves....”

Zacs I suggest a trip to Spec Savers for you, this is actually what I put :

I bet she instantly recognised the portrait of Edward Colston as soon as she saw it,

Where does it say that "she WOULD recognise it".

Has I have already explained to you when I put "I bet she instantly recognised......" I was being sarcastic.

Regarding her skin colour, I also bet that out of a number of persons of colour they wouldn't have been many who would have recognised him also.

I have now finished explaining to you any further, because I have lent someone my pneumatic drill although I bet their piece of concrete isn't half as hard as your head.
'I bet she instantly recognised the portrait of Edward Colston as soon as she saw it,

Where does it say that "she WOULD recognise it".'

Are you clinically insane? It's the only explanation i have for what you've just written.

Trying to back-track on something you've written which clearly underlies the reason you picked this story in-particular just makes you look daft. I've told you before......we can see through you.
