It is a far better, balanced and entertaining read that the garbage spewwed from Wilson’s laptop. It also shows the context in which the remark that Python would not be commissioned, which Wilson has torally misrepresented.

Haha Gromit and Gull....AB's answer to Mike and Bernie Winters.
Remember this? ( Back later. Gotta go to a funeral but it will be funnier than those two)

Yes, we all know the writers for the Two Ronnies were very funny and clever. The fact that it is still funny 42 years after its screening is testament to its genius.
But taking a classic old sketch and then comparing it to contempory comdeians isn’t really a good comparison.
There was a lot of comedy dross about in 1976, just as there is now.
And comparing a Boyle one-liner to a ‘Ronnies’ 5 minute sketch is not fair either. That is like comparing a radio jingle with Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.

Saying ' things were so much better in my day' is lazy journalism, and comedy is a subjective art form, so the two dove-tail neatly into a Mail moan-piece.
I think Frankie Boyle is about as funny as dysentery on a coaching holiday, but people do like hum, so he has an audience, and that audience is entitled to be offered his entertainment.
I do understand shock-value humour, but Boyle is simply a sledge-hammer, if you hit enough targets hard enough often enough, someone will laugh.
As for Python not being commissioned now, that's a fair point, but that is because it was of its time, as all legendary comedy is.
No-one would commission The Two Ronnies, or Fawlty Towers, or Only Fools And Horses now either, but that is not because if their ethnicity, it's because of their style, which fitted then, and probably does not fit now.
Part of gettin older is slowly losing touch with modern culture. A natural reaction to this is to hark back to your own youthful culture and was still like that, and mourning that it is not, and will never be again.
But fans of Python and The Two Ronnies need to remember that they elbowed out the then-perceived humour of the day like ITMA, and The Billy Cotton Band Show, because that is how humour, and culture evolve and grow.
It's small-minded and mean to grumble about 'the youth of today' and so on and so on, but it fills a few pages in the Mail, and its readers lap it up, so that's OK.

Why have we allowed the thread to go off topic? It was never about what you find amusing individually, but about a forced contribution to a so called public broadcasting service being allowed to shovel it's left wing agenda down our gullets. I found long ago that there is nothing worth watching on the Beep Beep See, and if I do want to watch a bit of humour or witty comment I look for Live at the Apollo on Dave. At least they have the good sense to air both sides of both the political and cultural spectrum. Mind you they have to rely on a voluntary contribution from their viewers so need to be even handed. We even have the usual slow witted having a pop at Warren Mitchel's character with the well worn Racist jibe. Errrrrr he was ridiculing Alf not celebrating him. Another one who thinks that 1984 is a template for government rather than a warning about Fascism.
You only have to listen (briefly) to the puerile garbage Radio 4 puts out as 'comedy' at 1130pm to know how dumbed down, unfunny and out of touch with that audience the BBC is.
Separately in these days of being non-discriminatory how is anyone even allowed to get away with saying "if a group of white males who had been educated at Oxford or Cambridge came up with a new comedy show, they would not stand a chance of being hired by the BBC"??

‘Live at the Apollo’ is a contempory BBC commissioned show. It is currently on BBC Two.
‘Dave’ the tv channel is owned by... the BBC, and show BBC repeats.
