Thunderbird E-Mail Client
9 Answers
As advised in a previous question I had, I've installed Thunderbird to replace Windows Live Mail on my woman's PC. Had some inital issues, with sent mail not making it to the send folder, but discovered one can not use the default setting and expect it to work. One has to remove that bullet point, and chose to type in the folder to use; and then type exactly what was in the default, before it realises where it has to put the sent mail ! (Did the same for another two folder IIRC.)
Now a further issue. (Well before that, just to mention we sometimes still get it complaining it can't put a sent e-mail in the send folder; usually ones with large attachments I think: may be related.) The issue is a complaint of losing e-mails from the inbox folder. As I'm typing heresay, here, I can't give exact descriptions, but I'm told one loses (maybe deletes ?) the e-mail when it goes to the mobile, but expects it to be safe on the PC client. But it isn't found there either and seems lost.
Yes I know it's inexact info but it's all I have to check with for the moment.
As I write I realise I've not double checked her mobile, but since I installed TypeApp there, I trust I set the settings there ok. I'll check as soon as I've posted this, or maybe earlier. (I have, not a lot that's obvious. Did see one setting about enable sync services, with no further explanation. Maybe that should be off ? Unsure what that achieves.)
I'm wondering if it is to do with this change to IMAP. I was supposed to be IMAP on Live Mail before, where the issue didn't arise. IMAP seems to try to be clever and change everything everywhere, which is a pain. But I've looked at the Thunderbird settings and can't see anything likely to put it right.
Anyone with IMAP / Thunderbird experience who may be able to suggest a fix ?
Cheers.

Apologies for the typo.
So have you created the account in Thunderbird to be an IMAP one? Right click on the account and select 'settings' A page opens up on the account you are interested in click 'server settings' At the very top you should see "Server Type IMAP Mail Server" Just below that is the Server Name (check it ).
Are you able to log diectly into the mail box on the server. I have a personal goDaddy server so I can go in using "webmail" via a browser. Most mail servers allow something like that using Hoarde or Squirrelmail. If you can are you able to see all the messages on there as you can on your local device?

Yes those settings are correct. Has to be IMAP as service supplier stopped doing POP IIRC.
Yes, can log in at the server. No sign of the missing e-mails there either. Without checking everything there does seem to be correlation between it and Thunderbird (annoyingly). So one fails to delete after a successful download. A second issue then.

As if that wasn't bad enough, this morning she renamed a folder and all the subfolders have gone missing.
(Probably making things worse by recreating the vital sub-folder and finding it didn't automatically pick up what was in the old and now missing one.)
No one any ideas on what is happening and/or how to fix ? It's a B nightmare and I get the flak whenever I ask a question as it is always taken as a critisism :-( .
