When I read this I was in disbelief, I just couldn't get that some still believe you can change the way someone is born in this day and age, it's just disgusting and inedible.

Just who are these people? Religious fanatics I suppose make up the bulk but if so how do you stop it as much is done in secret and 'voluntary'.

//Have to agree that getting rid of these cures is a great thing though but wonder how it's only being done in 2018. //

I'm sure a not-insignificant factor is that there are MPs (such as the delightful Stephen Crabb, off the top of my head) who are involved in churches that do this, and the parties don't want to embarass themselves too much by shining a light on it.

Of course, at the moment there is zero cabinet discipline so Penny Mourdant (who, appropriately, is the main driver for this) is forging ahead and getting something done that would be politically hard to navigate in other circumstances.
Don't apologise for ranting about this sort of thing.
Of course it's an error in nature. Dioecious species need two different genders to procreate, so clearly if you are attracted to your own gender something's amiss. This is not to suggest it's sinful or to be looked down on at all, any more that one looks down on others who have physical issues. It's just the way some people are. One can be a good person and lead a good life despite their accepting that they are ginger, for example.

Meanwhile quacks have been selling snake oil since mankind caught on to selling. Laws usually state that erroneous claims are illegal, so I'm unsure what scientific evidence there is for these "cures" anyway. Aren't they already illegal ? Isn't this another government reaction that's unnecessary ?
I haven't got any gay friends but I once said hello to someone who sounded quite effeminate
^ haha
YMB - In answer to your question - how can this be legal?

Never think that the establishment will not use all its money and power to enforce its bitter bigotry on the world at large.

AH, there are gay people in Westminster, probably more than we know so I still dont get why this wasn't outlawed. It's wrong on so many counts - for instance even if you dont like gay people then to them it should be wrong to promote a 'cure' that cannot possibly work and is most likely to drive someone to suicide.
I'm not convinced that people are actually born gay. It's not as black and white as that. Many of the therapists are ex-gay people who offer help to people who are uncomfortable with their sexual inclinations. I agree that such therapy should not be NHS funded, but hope that these people are able and willing to offer their services on an informal basis.
it's a free country, I'm uncomfortable with the idea of banning ineffective treatments. If people want to spend their money on homeopathy, OTC cancer cures or gay exorcisms, good luck to them. Trading standards might like to restrict the claims they make, but if potential customers still want to try them they should be allowed to.
There is no such thing as an ex gay person. There is either a bi sexual person who chooses to only enter into heterosexual relationships from a certain point or repressed gay people, you cannot become 'ex gay'.
Kvalidir- you forgot to add "in my opinion" :) Speak for yourself. I don't believe there is such a thing as a born gay person.

That just doesn't happen Spath :/

Yes it does, Kval.
Does it? I thought that only happened in soaps ...
I'm sure Hazi has a wealth of evidence that proves it is possible to be 'cured' of gayness, don't you?

My point is Hazi/ Spath it really doesn't happen, it is simply people who are still gay either in denial because of familial/ social pressure or people who have been brought up to think being gay is something shameful disassociating themselves from their natural sexuality.
