Pregnant Women On The Tube

If you were sitting on tube carriage, or on a bus, and through one door walked a very old person, with a walking stick, and at the other end, a woman in her third trimester...and there were no seats free, who would you give up your seat for?

I personally would offer my seat to the elderly person, the pregnant lady is not ill or infirm presumably.

Mind you, I should really be sat down too.

I never expected anyone to give me their seat when I was pregnant, and certainly wouldn't be rubbing my stomach looking for sympathy.
Now I'm old(er) I still wouldn't ask but I'd be very grateful if one were offered.
Sorry it doesn't answer your question but I'm not in a position to give anyone my seat, whoever they are. Plus I drive where I want to go anyway.

The sticker above the priority seats on the underground does actually denote pregnant women as well as the elderly. I would chose elderly first but if the weather was hot or the pregnant woman looked uncomfortable, I would offer my seat. I think it's unfair that the article says that Brits won't offer their seats. Lets face it, how many tube carriages are full of Brits? I remember about 20+ years ago, a male colleague of mine telling me that he offered his seat to a pregnant woman. Her reply was "I`m pregnant, not effing disabled"

Brings back memories of when I was pregnant and commuted on the tube. I can count how many times I got offered a seat in rush hour.

As a general rule the elderly person unless the pregnant woman looked in distress because of the heat etc or something along those lines, but i'm generally of the opinion that if things progress normally pregnancy isn't a illness.

I did not get her pregnant,
I have paid for a seat and am going to use it.
And don't bother with the 'What if it was your Wife?'
When she was pregnant either I or a group of friends/neighbours
made sure she didn't have to use Public Transport.
We all looked after each other.

I would assess each lady, and offer the seat to the one who appeared to need it the most. Some old ladies are fine standing, as are some expectant mums, although personally I always offer my seat to any lady anywhere, regardless of age or pregnancy status, I just think that is good manners.

Then your wife was fortunate, at least as far as support during her pregnancy went.

Through circumstances, not all women are that fortunate, but that doesn't mean that a little chivalry can't be shown, even in 2018.

Plus, the small print will advise that a ticket does not guarantee you a seat - unless you are 'being a man!' about it.

Baldric....you are flipping useless at putting yourself in the shoes of someone else....doesn't hurt to do that now and again....makes you a nicer person to know... :-)

I would offer my seat to a person older than me who looked as though they needed it.....actually I would offer my seat to anyone who looked as though they needed it......but a fit, healthy pregnant woman....moreover one who needs to wear a badge because her pregnancy isn't showing.....well why would I?

Wow, Baldric you surprise me. Yes my husband got me pregnant and unfortunately has to work different times to me and also back then we could not afford taxis everyday.
