//The prime minister has issued a stark warning to MPs that failure to back her plan for Brexit would risk the UK not leaving the EU at all.//

A stark warning? One could be forgiven for thinking she’s worried about flouting the democratic will of the people. Nigel Farage, speaking on ‘The Wright Stuff’ a couple of days ago, said that delaying tactics could be employed until the eleventh hour when Article 50 would be suspended. Is the real end plan coming to fruition? I think so.

I always said May was a liar and a fraud. Horrible specimen of a woman politician.
Article 50 can only be ‘suspended’ by unanimous agreement of the EU.

Brexiters and Remainers come from all sides of the political spectrum, but I suspect this debacle will resound for years to come with many Conservative voters registering their disgust at this utter betrayal by staying away from the ballot box at the next General Election. Enter The Three Stooges - Jeremy Corbyn, John McDonnell, and good old mastermind Diane …. God help us!

Oh what a tangled web you’ve woven, Mrs May.
"No Brexit" Thats good news , thank you Naomi, you have just made my Sunday morning even better.
Oh it's going to happen Gulliver. Just what form is unclear.

Keep an eye on Michael Gove. Theresa's fate may lay with him.
Theresa May risks no one supporting her whatsoever, Boris for PM.
I think maybe she has just put a nail in her own coffin. We need her gone.
I think Rees-Mogg will be waiting in the wings.

Well, it's not guaranteed, gulliver, but as another who holds democracy in contempt, enjoy.
You hope , Hopkirk!.
No one will want the job of PM until Brexit is done (in whatever form). It’s a poisoned chalice of a position, that’s why DC quit.
Question Author
gulliver, I think few Brexiters want this sort of arrangement at all. Even if she gets the support she’s asking for, this isn’t Brexit.
A proper Brexit, clean break from the EU could be good for the country. It will open up the rest of the world and we will still trade with the EU. It won’t suddenly stop. It might mean putting a bit more effort into EU trade for a while but it will still continue.

When the EU see what they are missing they will come to the negotiating table with a bit more humility.

However remaining in theEU will kill the UK. We will be forced to adopt the Euro, and join all the ever closer ties mandate. We will loose all our subsidies and will have to pay more. We will have to accept we will have no say on immigration and any number of other policies that the European Parliament and the EU dictate because as is apparent it is run by unelected, overpaid, megalomaniac officials.

I know that I want independence rather than subjugation. All those thinking no Brexit is good are deluded at best.

vengaroberta, //Lets just call the whole debacle off. //

Why would you want to do that? It isn't what the people voted - or are you another who holds democracy in contempt?
In the circumstances, I can't see much wrong with the 12-point non-negotiable position. No doubt the experts will tell me otherwise.
Even if May gets the backing she wants, the EU are still likely to refuse her plan.
Cassa, do you not think the tariffs resulting from a hard Brexit would be very damaging?

Germany and France would have to adapt and get used to them.
