Based on what is given in the link and what I surmise -
It appears that a man has wandered into a crocodile sanctuary, specifically the breeding area, and been bitten by a crocodile.
I suggest that a local man would know that the sanctuary was there, and that crocodiles were running around loose in the area - maybe he figured that no-one else had taken the grass he was after (for good reason!) so he thought he'd chance it.
The area was more than likley fenced, and may have had warning signs, but it is highly likley that the man climbed or cut a fence to get to where he ended up - he was trespassing on private land.
The local villagers took mob action and slaughtered the remaining animals - it is unlikely they had a debate about their action first - mob action tends to be instant and unstoppable.
The police arrived, and were outnumbered by an armed mob, and decided not to intervene, assuming any animals were actually still alive.
In conclusion, a man has tragically lost his life, and a large number of crocodiles have tragically lost theirs.
That how I see it - spath if you want to argue with me, please stick to the points I have made and don't wander off into fox-hunting, veganism, and similar, that's how threads get de-railed.
Just a suggestion.
