Yep you read that right.

MPs are to vote on finishing work a week early, so that there is no time to hold a vote of no confidence in Theresa May.

I can believe it. Party Conference should do for her.
It's only a matter of time. She would be better going now whilst retaining what little dignity she has left.
A leadership challenge in the form of the requisite number of letters from MPs rather than a vote of no confidence. Obviously she would win any challenge and it is not clear to me how ending parliament earlier would stop the letters coming in. Chances are the vote would not pass anyway
"Obviously she would win any challenge"
:-D
I wonder if those who want her replaced at this point have thought things through. It’s hard to see how a different prime minister at this stage would make any difference and would increase cells for a general election. What was it someone called Jeremy Corbyn? The most effective chief whip the Tories have ever had!
Who is the obvious popular challenger? Unless a single viable candidate emerged as last time, there would need to be all the palaver if a vote among MPs then a vote of members. All while we are in the grip of Brexit negotiations
Those declaring no confidence will have discussed candidates beforehand; so there ought be no issue there. With remainer MPs unhappy and wanting a staunch remainer PM, and leaver ones unhappy with a remainer coming up with offers that cross basic exit red lines, May can be expected to be dropped early. It should just be a case of whether there are more Tory MPs who believe in democracy, or more who believe that the people are only there to elect MPs and the MPs should do what they want.
"All while we are in the grip of Brexit negotiations"

Don't you mean "negotiations"?
If they want to have a vote of no confidence, they can do. All they have to do is not pass the motion to go on holiday early.

If they vote for an early holiday they're obviously not that bothered.
yep TTA is running off but point of order, is the VNC in the PM or the government collectively? Also given the fixed parliament fiasco what would it mean anyway? The government would then have to vote to dissolve itself for a GE to occur. Any at least JRM got his oar into the vote last night.
Hardly OG. Suggest to me a candidate likely to be acceptable to both sides and explain how such a candidate would miraculously deliver Brexit. In your answer, try to avoid terms like ‘will of the people’ and remember that not everyone sees things the way you do ;-)
They can’t just ‘have a vote of confidence’
40 MPs have to the chairman or some such and that would trigger a leadership challenge.
It isn’t clear to me how breaking up early would stop that.
‘have to write to ...’
I wonder if Timmy & Vinny will turn up for the vote?
They weren't that bothered about the Brexit vote.

Farron had been the most ardent/annoying remainer and yet couldn't be bothered to turn up and vote. Hypocrites.
good point ludwig! She should link it to a pay rise to make doubly sure! PMSL!
The ruddy woman has to go, is she that cocooned in her little authoritarian bubble she thinks everyone is behind her?
She should have gone a long time ago, but who will replace her ? I don't see anyone offering to fill the post .?
Jacob Rees-Mogg ?
Isn't 'fill the post' the nickname of our charismatic chancellor?
