For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Yes. Odd as it may seem I’ve delays given Trump the benefit of thstever doubt their might be as to his incompetence. I’ll only believe he’s guilty of collusion with Putin if and when Mueller comes up with the evidence. I’ve supported him on Syria, Taiwan, even N Korea to start with and I was prepared to give him credit for kick starting rust bucket communities. Sadly tho the big picture tells s different story
For my part, I think a better way of putting it is that I am aware of my own biases already, and I will do my best to treat Trump as fairly as possible in those circumstances. But what he says, and the way that he says it, and what he does, and the way that he does it, all tend to be pretty unpleasant or disagreeable in my opinion.
I don't have to keep a track record of the things Trump has done that I like and dislike in order to convince anyone of this. Naomi, in this thread, said earlier that she will defend Trump or criticise him according to what he is doing at the time. In that, at least, I am happy to accept this; the only difference between us, therefore, is that we have wildly different standards for defence or criticism. There are not many examples on AB to demonstrate this, I'll admit, but as I say I'm not obliged to share every opinion I have on everything Trump has said or done.

I think Hillary Clinton would have been a very good president: the Russians plainly were scared shitless of her, which is why they bust a gut to get Sanders or Trump or anyone indeed elected in her place.
Trump, I thought, might actually tuen out better than many feared beforehand: the thinking among many was "the bark would be worse than the bite". What has actually happened is he seems actually to have been worse thanb most people's worst fears. As the administration has progressed he's gradually jettisoned the many good folk he had around him and surrounded himself with more extreme Trumpites. Of course in a sense he can probably never be quite as bad as he sounds, but "sound" is very important.
What is fascinating is that Mrs T seems to have gone off on one: (is she west wing or east wing, I forget :-) ) Now she's off to the shitholes of Africa I believe to patch things up. Interesting ...

Finally, as a matter of fact, I *don't* want Trump to fail, at least not generically: that he has done, so far, is rather sad for all.
For example, I had no desire to see him succeed at repealing the Affordable Care Act, and am therefore grateful that he has not done so; on the other hand, I am sorry to see that he has yet to address Infrastructure, which was one of his Big Three priorities and appears to have, inexplicably, disappeared from the agenda altogether.
Conversely, I didn't know what to make of his part in the North Korean saga, as he has apparently tried out every possible policy position imaginable in the last year, but there is no sense in which I wanted him to fail, unconditionally, at achieving peace with that regime. It seems that he has not succeeded at anything other than giving ground to the North Koreans, which actually takes things backward rather than forward.
And so on. What has been said about me and my attitude to Trump really is wildly inaccurate, wholly untrue, and definitely "fake news".

I'm not really sure why AB's Trump critics are being challenged to justify themselves here. In 2016 I felt he was an obvious con-man with openly hostile attitudes towards America's democratic institutions and zero suitability for office. If I thought I had been proven wrong about any of this I would have openly said so. I put my money where my mouth was on this site and did admit I was wrong about how long he would last in office - I've also admitted I was wrong about plenty of other things on this site too - most recently my support for Jeremy Corbyn. This is not usually the done thing in News.
Clinton was an awful candidate imo but she was right on the money when she said there is no 'other' Donald Trump. There does not seem to be a great president in this man waiting to come out. That guy we saw in the campaign is, surprise surprise, the same one who now has the most powerful job in the world. I wish people had paid more attention.

I wasn't aware of this yesterday but The Economist says Paul Manafort is facing trial again in September for conspiracy to defraud the United States - something his associate Rick Gates has already pleaded guilty to. The September trial will also include charges of money laundering and witness tampering.
Just to be clear, this is a person whom Donald Trump yesterday praised as a 'good man' and called 'brave' on Twitter for not accepting a deal with the authorities. The authorities Trump is supposed to be supporting.
"Drain the swamp," he said. At this point he looks more like a cross between Nixon and Jabba the Hutt.
