I am not sure that i am with you there.......many homosexuals that i know cannot see the point of the parade and wouldn't partake and many heterosexual folks can see the point and would partake.

My point is - if you have not lived as part of a section of society which lives with ridicule and abuse on a daily basis, you may not understand the pleasure and pride (!) in expressing your rights to your own freedoms by having a nice day out.
Just because you don;t see the point in something does not nean it doesn't have a point for other people - just for you, and as I pointed out, accepting that simple fact is the essence of tolerence which is essential for a civilised society to function and develop.

The residents of and around Glastonbury have to put up with hoards of lorries and trailers blocking their country roads for two or three months prior to the Festival, while it is set up, and the same afterwards when it is dismantled -but the press only make noise about drug arrests.
Young people enjoying themselves? Pah! They all need a haircut and two years in the army!!!

As I always say on occasions such as this, roads and streets are for getting from A to B or accessing the premises on them. They should not be used for mass gatherings of celebration (or whatever) such as this. (Cue: "What about the Remembrance Day Parades, then?").
In this particular case the disruption is immense and lasts for the best part of a week (when the preparation and clearing up is considered). It's an outdated nonsense that needs consigning to the dustbin.
