seems unlikely as some smokers do. And i would doubt people who smoke at home didnt put their stuff in a bin

My partner smokes heavily and doesn't chuck his cigarette ends everywhere, he wouldn't dream of it, although there is a big nub end bucket on the deck and an ashtray by the bed and another in the kitchen, but that's his own mess and he disposes of things tidily enough. I don't smoke btw.

i can put my ciggie ends in an ashtray and empty that into a bin. no excuse for anyone to litter.

well no one seems to throw their fag butts on the ground. Funny how every smoking area, pub door way etc is knee deep in them. Where I work they have a purpose built shed with all the bins you could need. Yep it's a disgusting mess!

It's not just smokers though it's a general malaise owing to lack of self-discipline and never being told how to respect the environment - that's why take-away remnants are happily chucked out of car windows, the hedgerows are littered with rubbish and the ideal place to dump your old mattress is a beauty spot. People don't care.

I live near the new forest and what really annoys me is when smokers empty their car ashtrays in the car parks.

I'm sure not all smokers are messy, but some create an awful lot of mess as can be seen outside the cafe near where I work. I think the cafe owners could do more by providing a proper bin for butts.

I had a neighbour who would flick his ash on my kitchen floor despite there being an ashtray on the table. I put the ashtray down on the floor in the vague hope he might get the hint. I don't think he did.

i have never heard that, though i don't smoke, i know some who do, and they leave their cigs to be mowed up from the kerb or pavement, disgusting habit.

I have never been told cig butts were bio degradable - portable ashtray when out and about, then empty when cold into a suitable bin.
