Yes I know Trump said it, but please don't turn this into yet another anti-Trump thread, please address it on the fact that if one is a man (no matter of what nationality) one can be deemed guilty until proven innocent.

Men have changed and not for the better. Feminism is the problem. Gentlemen used to offer seats, open doors and be respectful. Now women want to behave like rowdy males ,swear, burp and use foul language. I'm glad I was able to be treated as a 'lady' by 'gentlemen' when it was allowed. Some women are now using their perceived sexual vulnerability for their own vindictive means. It won't take intelligent young men that long to realise the rules have changed and certain types of behaviour are no longer acceptable. Those that don't adapt face difficult times or have to move to areas where progress hasn't quite arrived. It's the older men who need to be worried those who lived thinking they had carte blanche to treat women with disrespect. There are certainly men in my past who would fit that category and who made women uncomfortable or worse. If their past comes back to bite them and they were at the extreme end of the sex pest spectrum fair enough. What i dont like to see is women coming out with poor me speeches because some pillock in the office made a few off colour comments.

Leave victimhood for those who were really harmed by extreme behaviour. Deal with the rest as and when it happens. Stand up to the men (or women) who are minor offenders, it's a kind of bullying and you have the right to challenge it but with a sense of perspective please.

I would hope that boys brought up decently to be respectful of everyone, male or female, would know it's not okay to behave in certain ways, likewise I would hope that girls brought up equally well would not cynically use untrue sexual assault allegations to further themselves and wreak revenge upon a man she has some antipathy for. Sadly you will always get sexual abusers and people who claim they were falsely sexually abused, you can't do anything about that, some people are vile human beings, but it's better that women are not automatically disbelieved as they once were.

Rowanwitch That is a very sensible attitude. Sometimes women are their worst enemy. At 16 I went into a male dominated office full of draftsmen and got the usual comments that would send someone into counseling these days. We laughed it off, secretly were pleased when someone wolf-whistled,and learnt to give as good as we got. Now some woman are offended if someone offers to open a door or give them their seat. This is not denigrating the real victims of serious sexual abuse, of course not, but things are getting out of control when someone feels offended because a workman shouts corrrrrrrr! at them.

I can remember a time when the old steam trains had non-corridor carriages and if the carriage contained one lone female, I would not enter it.

The reason being that there were incidents were a lone male in a carriage with a lone female, stood the danger of the female demanding cash from the male, by threatening to pull the communication cord and yelling sexual assault.

I think those of us who lived through those days have a responsibility to remind some of our younger sisters that dealing with idiots is a useful life skill, not a basis for a law suit.

AOG, I am also sure that many women travelling alone appreciated a gentleman who didn't join them leaving both parties feeling safer.

No I don't agree. Despite what some seem to fear, the rate of false accusations is stupendously low. On the other hand, it's pretty clear now that attitudes towards women -- at parties, in the workplace, on the streets, etc -- have been very poor up until recently, and women have had to put up with a great deal more abuse than some seem comfortable acknowledging.

Kavanaugh has certainly lied about his drinking habits; in itself this hardly proves his guilt for the crimes he is accused of, but it's hard to feel sorry for someone who's been as dishonest (and then as bad-tempered) as he has been. Trump, too, must have some guts complaining about this given that he's clearly been involved in less-than-saintly interactions with many of the women in his life.

No, if young rowdy men with "wandering hands" finally get held to account for their disrespectful and lecherous behaviour, so much the better. Why have anything to fear, unless you actually were a sex offender?
