I could have told them that. I used to work in a hostel and the vast majority were smoking dope.
One in particular wasn’t called dopey Dan for nothing.
The longer they had been on it the dopier they were. Now it is always possible of course that they were all on the thick side of the brain scan but even so.
I think cannabis has been talked and written about for some years as being bad for teenage brains. Apparently the stuff around now is much stronger than in the past.
Do folk with working memory, reasoning and behaviour control issues take up cannabis use early, or does early use of cannabis cause working memory, reasoning and behaviour control issues ? The issues remain afterwards, after all.
They need to start with a group of non-users, test them first, then split them into two groups, and give one lot regular placebos and the other cannabis, in a double blind experiment, and see what the results are.
I've never touched the stuff - ever. And that from someone who went into, and out of, their teens in the Sixties. A lot of my mates were doing it, but I didn't want to know. Most of them are dead now. I'm, just, like, sayin'. Yer know?
This isn't really news, there have been published articles about this for sometime and links to cannibas use having a direct effect on mental health including directly responsible for psychotic break downs.
I believe the crux of it is around the types of drugs being used so skunk more powerful than cannibas.
Personally I say legalise and control the lot, it'll probably be the middle class 30 - 50 year old who are the biggest consumers anyway. Either that or parents are just going to have to accompany their kids to their dealers to ensure they're getting quality gear.... It's the responsible parent thing to do.
"Although levels of cannabis use in the study were low compared with alcohol use, 28% of the teenagers still admitted to some kind of use.
This compared with 75% of the teenagers who said they drank alcohol at least occasionally."
So it seems although cannabis is more harmful for teenagers, teeneagers are actually drinking about 2.4X times more than they're taking cannabis. I think the social norm and accessibility to alcohol is part of it's issue. Comparing the two in my opinion is foolish, but cannabis is less dangerous to society as a whole compared to booze.
A cheeky joint won't kill your kid, them going out and getting paralytic potentially will, it also leaves them so vulnerable in the world to potential perverts or even to the environment like cold ditches or a hedge on their way home.
