Thanks, mamya -------- it is awful and we're running out of time before hormones kick in. He's been talked to and talked to and understood, cuddled and programmes set...…… it seems to make no difference. At the moment he seems set for academic failure, resistance (he's very bright actually) and anti-social behaviour. Well, wrong thread for this, but I am very worried about this. He lashes out viciously, I have seen adults back off from him and say kindly that he must not do this - but he does! So much for nurture. I believe that if he'd been smacked as a tiny he'd have understood about smacks hurting and so wouldn't have done it to others.
He's too old now so we have big problems. A smack would have been in order about age 5. Perhaps a smack on the hand or nappy might have stopped him aged 18 mths. I know I let my tiny crawl towards a fire and stick her hand in at 11 mths. (she wouldn't be told 'no') to teach her to beware of fire ---I was on hand with a bowl of iced water and no harm resulted, but she never did it again and grew up fine.
I seriously wonder about where some people's heads are at - sticking a kid's hand in the fire (but had a bowl of water ready - well, that's ok then), preventing a child becoming a bully by smacking them - no wonder the kid is a bully if this sort of behaviour is deemed okay in your family (and that's just what you've posted about that you think is acceptable, wonder what else is acceptable in your world?).
