//The Lions of the Great War statue in Smethwick, Birmingham - built to mark the contribution and sacrifices of soldiers of all faiths to the British military - was targeted by vandals in the early hours of Friday.

The words "sepoys no more" can be seen sprayed onto the wall beside the statue and - according to Birmingham Live - a thick black line has also been drawn through the words "Great War".

Sepoy was a term used for soldiers in the British Indian Army.

Police are treating the incident as racially aggravated criminal damage.//

lets hope they catch whoever did this.
that is a very distinctive jacket, someone must recognise it.
I always thought the the Sikhs were a proud warrior nation in their own rights, and stood firmly by the side of the British. It was the Muslims and the Hindus who set off the mutiny, by the use by the British of animal fat in their cartridges.

But no matter who these leeches were, the blame can't be placed at the door of the so called 'Far-Right' this time.
Not really, Emmie. If the youths are wearing it you can guarantee there's quite a lot of them wearing it.
Sick warped hatred, and no doubt they have a poor grasp of History too.
AOG give it a rest.
Terrible behaviour.A sad indictment of Britain in the 21st century.
i doubt that this is an isolated incident, war memorials have been daubed with paint before, suggest that through history that may have been the case..
I'm with sparkly, should be birched, pity they won't be though ..
Emmie is right, Grumpy, this isn't a new thing.
hereIam....birching doesn't solve anything.
If you say so.
it would, i expect most who were birched never did it again.
It's all rather irrelevant as I doubt such punishment will return, however a report (from Scotland) here suggests it wasn't as effective as we might think.

a punishment must fit the crime, suggest that if those who did it are caught they are made to clean it up.
It always seemed to be the same boys who got caned time after time at my school, mamya. They seemed to get some sort of pleasure from goading the teachers and claimed kudos for taking the beating.

I know birching is on a whole different level but the attitude is the same.
It's already been cleaned up, emmie
Yes indeed, the queue outside the Head's office always had familiar faces.
hc that's good, but would like to see those two caught and punished.
///.....the blame can't be placed at the door of the so called 'Far-Right' this time. ///

Indeed.
I bet most of them wouldn't have a clue what a 'Sepoy' was.

I am glad that the monument has already been restored; it was a shame it needed to be done.
