// I'm referring to UK austerity not overseas aid //

Does it not occur to you that if we did not give so much away in Overseas Aid that there would be more available to ease the so-called Austerity, of which I have seen nothing, in this Country?
Question Author
look baldric we give 1% of our entire tax income to overseas aid, and that gives us good relationships with certain countries. that 1% has nout to do with austerity.

It may be nice for some LOL, if you've not seen austerity, then you should look at why May is saying she's going to end it, implying it is a current thing.

Police cuts, austerity.

An example of the rubbish we have let in to this country. Now we have to spend a fortune keeping them in prison.

Austerity (or, rather, keeping the poor, poor) was only ever marginally necessary because the last Thatcherite government (masquerading as New Labour) baled out the banker barrow-boys in the City of London who had lost BILLIONS of our money on dodgy dealing in the mortgage market.

But arguments have no place in this bear-garden. Here, instead, various shades of right-winger rabble-rousers go about their terminally repetitive business of thumping tubs.

Define Austerity in terms of the UK.
Question Author
Austerity, the act of cutting budgets in the hope the gov has more spending. Issue is, it stops people earning, which makes them rely more on government resources. If i'm wrong, please can you define me austerity in the UK
Austerity, unnecessary but invented, means lower or no pay rises for workers employed directly or indirectly by the government, benefits being cut or ‘rationalised’, the net effect of which is lower benefits, a general free-for-all in most markets while the poor are kept poor.
The UK has spent so much time with its hand out expecting a living to be placed in it its forgotten how to work for a living.

On the one hand no child should go without a stable home with food on the table, clothes in their backs and education to allow them to become self sufficient members of society.

On the other adults should be made to appreciate the other people’s money they get. All benefits should be subsistence levels. Otherwise there is no incentive to work.

But as I said. The UK is so used to sitting waiting for the money to ping into their account that allows them to live a leisurely life compared to those working.

Nothing will change. It will get worse mind you.
The majority of working age people are working though.
Austerity doesn't, and never did, exist. It was an invention of the Tories to tax and cut their way through govt. Most people in this country take foreign holidays; own their own homes; drive a family car; have a flat screen TV; own a computer; own a mobile phone; have a cable/satellite TV subscription; subscribe to various charities in record amounts; subscribe to leisure clubs/activities. What austerity are we talking about? You're all loaded. And it's the motorist that is funding the mythical austerity.
You lot in the UK don't know what Austerity is. You should see what I saw when living in Zambia setting up training schools for native Zambians. Entire families living under a plastic sheet, with no other home, and only an open fire for cooking and warmth. (yes it DOES get cold at night even in Central Africa)
//it's the motorist that is funding the mythical austerity. //

how can that be10C, when fuel is still cheaper (by 14p a litre) than it was 4 years ago? this afternoon on the M5 between Bristol and Birmingham, I saw tradies' vans from Kendal, Plymouth, Norwich, Wakefield, and many other places at least 3hr travelling time away (at "normal" tradie van speed, ie 85mph-100mph) - how can they afford to take jobs so far from home unless transport is artificially cheap?
We don't live in Zambia. That's where charity donations come in. Mushroom, do you think they drove there just for the fuel? They were probably delivering in the area and needed to re-fuel. The motorist is bearing the brunt. No doubt about it.
Eddie, I agree we have no real idea of deprivation. We have become cosseted and soft.

But that is the way society goes when it becomes rich. It becomes complacent and lazy with hands out.

There will always be richer people than me and there will always be poorer people than me. That is a fact and won’t change no matter how much socialists want it to be different.

You ain’t going to get away from it by ignoring it.

Austerity (or, rather, keeping the poor, poor) was only ever marginally necessary because the last Thatcherite government (masquerading as New Labour) baled out the banker barrow-boys in the City of London who had lost BILLIONS of our money on dodgy dealing in the mortgage market.
It'll end when the right wing government chooses to stop inflicting it and investing in our country instead. But in the meantime there's a different priority.
People are going to hate what follows....

What austerity?

During the 10 years of 'austerity' my income has increased significantly.

If people are struggling I literally couldn't care any less if I tried.

ALL I care about is me and my wife and kids, and we're hunky dory.

If people are struggling, well that's their problem, not mine.
