You have relatives, know other parents, I doubt many are in a position where they a forced to shop with their kids. And even for the few that do, there's no reason to have privileged spaces. My parents managed fine without.

I find it really quite difficult to get a child out of a car if I’m parked in an ordinary space – or to get an invalid out of a car in similar circumstances. Sometimes the spaces are so tight it’s difficult to get myself out of the car – and I’m slim! I don’t see why anyone has a problem with dedicated parking spaces.
