Why not release the papers - they might just have a clue to the lad's burial place. And the owner is dead, so who is he "protecting" ?

Self-important solicitor ought to be defrocked by his peers (or whatever they do) but no doubt they will close ranks as usual.

What matters Talbot is they need a court order. The solicitor is doing his duty and would be in breach of law society rules if he didn't comply- until such time as the court order requires the case to be opened. Maybe you missed Barmaid's post

I have posted times without number that the law operates without emotion, and that obviously extends to the people who apply it.

The notion that any solicitor acts for their own personal ends is facile, and holds no credence.

If the solicitor is withholding these documents, it is because he is under instruction from his client, or the court, to do so - and for no other reason.

Take the emotion caused by the original client out of the situation, and that is what you are left with - not some nasty man hurting people because he can.

Actually I love my attorney, he's the original attack dog, as is my partners and the solicitors I have in the UK as well. No use having toothless legal squads so I'll disagree with you about then being scum of the earth, if they're on my side :) x

Ordinary people who only usually use them for house purchases, wills or divorces however often find they are money grabbing with little or no actual human care shown. That has certainly been my experience - not that I would make such a generalisation as above on the entire profession.

Y M B's comment about solicitors is just ridiculous, not even a cheap shot because it misses its mark by a mile. Granted a few solicitors are crooks, they are the ones who tend to get struck off. I think they are very much the exception and unless Y M B has experience of all the
U K solicitors he should admit he has posted nonsense.

The solicitor who wrote our wills was lovely and very kind and helpful when I lost my husband shortly afterwards. The solicitor I dealt with when I had another difficult leal problem was again professional and helpful and very kind. Both times they were selected at random. Yes I guess we were lucky but also I think that they are like people in general....most of them want to be helpful and do a good job. In both cases, they gave unasked for advice on how we could minimise their fees.

actually thinking about it, we have also used solicitors to buy and sell houses 3 times. In every case they have been professional and courteous and done a good job.

What Woofgang said. In many dealings in various ways with solicitors over many years I have met one pompous git and one crook [who got struck off later]. The rest have been thoughtful, competent and helpful.

Theland, don't you think that you should leave God to judge people? He'll get them in the end and he's infallible. Surely he doesn't need your help or advice. Why bother to punish people for a few years here on earth, if your God is going to punish them eternally in the hereafter.

Okay how did this story get out . If there was summit in the case of value it would be known by now . So is somebody just playing the old no we won’t look inside in case people stop giving them cases that they can look inside . Heard it all before ..

This has come about because the family have requested sight of the contents to try to ascertain where young Keith Bennett may be buried. And I can fully understand why and why people should be so angry about it.

Of course the executor knows the contents but unless and until his beneficiaries direct disclosure or a judge orders it ( and a court of competent jurisdiction has already declined to so order) then there is sadly nothing anyone can do.
