Let’s get this tediously prolonged act of betrayal over with. MPs will probably vote to stop any no deal brexit happening. On this the Ides of March. Thereby tethering us to the bloated unaccountable EU in one form or another. Et Tu Brute.

I agree 100%
Dodgy analogy, Dave, what with Brutus etc trying to preserve the Roman Republic against the ambitions of the
man already accorded the title "dictator in perpetuo" (that's European Commission to you and me).

What we're seeing is more a case of the dictator's allies stabbing Brutus in the back/front/blah blah blah..
(Some pessimists in 2016 - quite realistic I think now - were cynical about the vested interests ever respecting the referendum result and allowing it to happen: Brexit to be delivered on the Greek Calends)

Thanks v-e. dodgy is as dodgy does whatever that means. Tenuous comparison I concur.
A pedant (not Peter) writes:

The ides of March is actually Friday :-)

Incorrect ichieria. The Ides are from the 13-15 of March.
Today is the 13th hence...
Er, no the ides is the 13th OR the 15th depending on the month

All beside the point, I realise

Conceded ich, but you get my drift.
err, no, leave with no deal is looking favourite at the moment.
//Let’s get this tediously prolonged act of betrayal over with.//

..but what will we have to talk about within the AB walls?!
I'd have thought that the month would always be March.
Beware the nuts in May !
How so,TTT?
When ‘No deal’ gets kicked out this evening, isn’t that the final nail in the Brexit coffin?
Disappointed that David Davies voted “for” last night.
No. a) It's not certain that MPs will be that daft
and b) it's simply expressing desire anyway. If A50 isn't aborted and an extension is either not asked for or rejected, we still, thank goodness, are on a no-deal despite any vote tonight.
So, Old_Geezer, there may still be light at the end of the tunnel, then?
I do think they will vote to bin off "no deal".
bigbad, the vote tonight is relevant only to show the feeling of the house, it does not in itself prevent no deal. To do that they'd have to repeal this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Union_(Withdrawal)_Act_2018
...and there ain't time. They may alter the exit date by SI but even that is pushing it time wise.
Thanks. TTT.
I still don’t hold out too much hope, and haven’t for ages.
Then again, I didn’t expect a ‘leave’ vote in 2016.
Today’s motion I believe states specifically “March 29” therefore it doesn’t attempt to “take No Deal” off the table as many claim.
ag, //..but what will we have to talk about within the AB walls?! //

Good question. Donald Trump used to fill the pages but even he's gone off the boil now.
If we leave the EU on 29 March or whenever it’s not the end of the matter.
