The speedboat was defective and being his, he was responsible for it and whomever he let use it. For sure the result was unlikely to have been intended, but he still has a case to answer.
er you were there were you AOG
as a stow away?
well tell us what happened then !

as for - "well he's appealing so he MUST be innocent..."
oh well this IS AB
and it the day after a Brexit-fest....

and yes he should ahve been charged as
he fulfilled the CPS criteria for charging

decent prospect of success and in the public interest

o god we have been here many times before ...... ( yawn)
I'm torn over this as she went into the boat of her own free will after drinking - but in the same way she was obviously drunk and if he was aware the boat was faulty it does make him negligent
Yes he should have been charged,he was convicted of manslaughter by negligence
Mobile phone footage shows Brown shouting about the speed as Shepherd drove at more than 24 knots down the river – more than double the speed limit.
thank you Danny
the Voice of Reason

basically was the defect a novus actus
( "a novus wottus? what is 'actus'? " a thousand ABers chorus as a crushing one-liner)

and that is what ( er wottus) the lawyers earn their money over

It was reported that he handed over control of the vessel and she caused it to flip over.
But she was visibly drunk and so he was negilent doing that!
AOG. //It was reported that he handed over control of the vessel and she caused it to flip over.//
Shepherd claimed this, but there is no corroborating evidence of it.

And what evidence is there that he is a speed boat killer, which he is widely described as by our press?

Two young people out on a first date, and acting foolishly, which unfortunately resulted in one of theirs death.

I believe that if the boat had belonged to Miss Brown, I don't think she would have had such a serious charge made against her.
Seems gf Brown was driving the boat = Shepherd is innocent imo

"....On the return journey, Shepherd handed over the controls to business development consultant Ms Brown who followed suit and went "full throttle"....."

AOG. Pure speculation.
Tambo //A young woman can be heard screaming "oh my god, you're driving go fast" as she filmed part of a speedboat crash that killed her just minutes before she plunged into the freezing Thames.//
His boat, and if drunk, was ill advised to take it out on the Thames. Probably no Navigtion lights on at nightime and exceeding the speed limit on the Thames. No life jackets. I read in another paper he had been warned about similar behaviour prior to this crime. The steering defects were most likely obvious to him. I read, also, that he made damn sure he looked after himself and made no attempt to find his passenger when the craft capsized. A selfish, gutless, show off and totally irresponsible. I believe the charge will stick unless he dreams up some plausible jackanories for a gullible judge.
Did you see his interview?
established fact’ that she was at the helm of his boat.

//But today it can be revealed that a witness believes she saw Shepherd alone on his boat, suggesting that Charlotte had fallen in alone. Stacia Read, who was watching from the balcony of her riverside apartment, saw a lone figure, apparently peering into the water as the boat ‘chugged along’ slowly.

She told The Mail on Sunday how she saw the 14ft vessel veer towards the south bank, then heard it crash with ‘a loud bang’, possibly into a wharf. Ms Read said she then heard a male voice, which turned out to be Shepherd’s, screaming for help as he clung to the hull of his capsized boat.

Charlotte’s mother, Roz Wickens, believes the explosive new evidence demolishes Shepherd’s story – and suggests it could be proof that he staged the crash to try to cover his tracks. Speaking to this newspaper, she condemned him as ‘a weasel of a man’ trying desperately ‘to save his own skin’//

/// Shortly after the footage was captured, the speeding boat hit a submerged log and tipped over near Wandsworth Bridge, sending both occupants into the water. ///

That could have happened regardless of who was driving, if or not they were drunk, even the speed of the boat or the actual condition of the boat.
I don't believe his claim that she was driving. I don't believe anything this man says.
He looked really smirk in his interview on the plane. Of course that could be nerves.
'Shepherd claims that Charli took control of his boat and was driving when it crashed on the Thames, this is based solely on his word, and is contradictory to eyewitness testimony.
