Not one jot. They have nothing better to do that decide how we must all bow to their ideology so they can *** off. Climate change will be beaten by further technical advances not by forcing people to give up the odd carrier bag or eat tofu.

Talking of the carbon footprint of the climate change conference in Paris, well anywhere in the world really.

They could, in this day and age of technology, use Skype or FaceTime or something. They don’t actually have to be in the same room.

Just putting the idea out there......
The changes required to prevent\reverse climate change will simply not happen.

We should be thinking more about how we survive it, rather than how we stop it.
I don't really know what they expect to achieve by doing what they're doing. Looks like another of the rent-a-mob brigade to me.

Measures should be put in place to ensure such disruptive protests can never happen
Measures should be put in place to ensure such disruptive protests can never happen
——————-
We have the options to do so as the human race, we’re just not listening to Attenborough et al and exercising the correct options to give our future generations the best chance.
//We should be thinking more about how we survive it, rather than how we stop it.//

Not really a meaningful distinction. How easily mankind survives extreme climate change is directly affected by our efforts to reduce its severity.

We are already facing serious impacts, but it will get progressively worse if we ignore the problem.

I understand the disruption is extremely annoying and frustrating (I'm one of the people affected, as is my partner) but if you agree with the principle of protesting and think the cause is a worthy one, I think it's hard to seriously disagree with this.
Kromo, there is a difference between protesting and civil disobedience.
I wonder what their solution would be?
Civil disobedience is in my opinion a perfectly valid form of protest so long as it's done peacefully.
I think having a negative attitude towards young people trying to change our future for the better is rather warped, and pathetic.

Why all the hate? *** me.
Krom, //Civil disobedience is in my opinion a perfectly valid form of protest so long as it's done peacefully. //

What exactly are they expecting this to achieve?
Naomi, one thing that it is achieving is the increase in air pollution from all the vehicles that have ground to a halt as a result of thoroughfares being blocked by demonstrators.
"Civil disobedience is in my opinion a perfectly valid form of protest so long as it's done peacefully."

So it's ok for a very small minority to disrupt the tax paying majority then?

OK

I wonder if your views will be kept when it is something you dont like? Say a Yaxley-Lennon protest?

Danny, indeed. The thing is the western world is aware and making efforts (however futile they may be) to address the problem. These people aren’t telling anyone anything new. They’re just creating disruption.
If their not disruptive no one will take any notice, so full support from me. If you have one homeless person sleeping in one shop doorway no one takes notice, fill the whole high street with them, something will be done.
Teacake, what have the homeless got to do with this thread?
teacake44, but we know and governments are attempting to address the problem. What more do these people expect?
They want a 'Citizens' Assembly' to be established for the purposes of making the UK more eco-friendly. I'm not exactly sure what that is, but that's one of their demands.

They also want the UK govt to commit to 0 emissions sooner than it currently is (UK govt wants to do this by 2050 - they want it done by 2025). They also want the govt to make a public statement warning about the threat of extreme climate change. I think they also want some kind of action taken against Shell for environmental/pollution offences but I might be getting that confused with something else.
Ymb

I don't think I've ever disagreed with his right to protest if he wants to.
Kromo //They also want the UK govt to commit to 0 emissions sooner than it currently is (UK govt wants to do this by 2050 //
These targets have been set by international treaties why should the UK government act unilaterally?
