After being eliminated last night, Mr Stewart said

“A no deal brexit would be catastrophic or that you can’t negotiate a new deal with Europe
probably were truths that people weren’t quite ready to hear.”

Are these the words of a sore loser?

He has also said that he wouldn’t serve in the cabinet under any of the remaining candidates.

Has he shot himself in the foot?

To add to your post at 9.52, Old_Geezer:
…because they desperately wanted to cling on to their own careers.
Andrea Leadsome was just as bad as Mr Gove.
The Home Office itself is a corrupt organisation. Neither Javid, Rudd or May have grasped this. I presume the corruption began in the Blair era. Perhaps with Jack Straw.
VE //The Home Office itself is a corrupt organisation//
And your proof of this is?
Danny, I can give you chapter and verse if you like. It would be based on entrance visas allowed and denied..

Would you like some examples?
Yes, if you can provide proof.
On second thoughts , no, this is going of the thread.
Oh, Danny Boy...
You could, of course, start a separate thread on the subject of the HO
v_e. //Previously I thought he [Javid] was straight.//

Really? I'm astonished!

Naivety, perhaps? My preference, despite what others may think, is to believe the best of people. I have frequently been disappointed.
In this instance your disappointment comes as no surprise.

Thank you for your input, folks.
Off out now, so I’ll check for any more posts tomorrow.
I don't mind if the thread veers away from the original question.
One answer can lead to something completely different.
Most of whathe says is recycled from others, to me he came across as thoroughly unlikeable. He was pushing himself as the one saying something different - but different doesnt always mean right.
Rory Stewart was the only one spelling out the facts. The rest of them are just selling a fantasy.
// As Bojo says we must be prepared to leave with no deal if necessary //

He should have stepped up then and done the job with that approach after Cameron resigned instead of letting a remainer make a ballsup of the negotiating process. As it was he chickened out because he didn't expect Brexit to be happening, and didn't want to deal with it.
He was exaggerating facts and coming up with no solutions save May's rejected remainer deal. Utterly useless.
// Would you like some examples?//

hey boys and gurlz we are to be treated to a fest of Home of Vice indiscretions. I can hardly wait ( I will make coffee and start knitting)

are the videos - - - in colour ? [squeak, gasp]

They all jumped out to let May in. Don't tell me that, that wasn't orchestrated by influential folk in the party. Nothing else explains it satisfactorily.
// They all jumped out to let May in //

Yes, when a volunteer was needed to deliver the Brexit they'd campaigned for, all the Brexiteers took a step backwards leaving Theresa May standing there. They're all to blame for the ensuing shambles.

I don't mind Rory Stewart. He's got a refreshing way of occasionally giving a straight answer to a question and the novelty value of that itself is appealing. He never had any chance of becoming leader though, especially with his 'let's revive the May deal approach'.
// They all jumped out to let May in //

They did indeed - and I can't help thinking that Boris doesn't really want it now either.
//I’m very worried. A few years ago the possibility of Trump being POTUS and Johnson as PM was a huge unlikely joke. Now it seems that is what we’re getting. What is happening to everyone?//

They’re fed up with being told what’s good for them (when it very clearly isn’t) and that’s what they’re having. They are fed up with expressing their wishes (either via a referendum of an election) and their wishes not being fulfilled when they vote for the prevailing side. Hey are feed up with a small cabal of people imposing their will on them against their expressed wishes. They are fed up with being told that they are too ignorant to understand the affairs on which they are being asked to vote. Will that do to be going on with? When the usual suspects continually ignore the electorate’s wishes the worm eventually turns.
