Ken, No. He sticks around and gives as good as he gets. If he took his ball home there would be no tweets.
It's a mistake to say that this is anything to do with "Trump is Trump". Ambassadors around the world, of all nations, tend to have dim views of their host country and the current administrations. To some extent that's almost their job. It would be unthinkable that the US Ambassador to the UK doesn't say more or less the same about our government (and maybe even with some justification, arguably). What's unfortunate about Sir Kim is that his comments were leaked -- and then, of course, Trump reacted as Trump always will, which is to say, he responds to criticism by confirming it.
He should be above all that, Naomi. He is supposed to be the most powerful man on the planet. Swapping insults with those beneath him does not garner respect. It's juvenile and not befitting his office.

Good fun though?
Ken, you know he should be above all that and I know he should be above all that but he is who he is, he’s the ejected president, and frankly if anything is juvenile it’s the witch hunt that’s been going on since before he was elected in which no stone has been left unturned by the vitriolic torch bearers. Nevertheless he survives. Who’s the loser? Not him.
Haha!! So much for predictive text! For ejected read elected. Hope I didn’t get anyone’s hopes up. ;o)
well he's massively increased sales of screen wipes and African Peace Porridge, Naomi!

BA for pumpjack
He has resigned
Who.....Trump??
Lol Retro,the Ambassador.
I don't think he had any choice but to resign. The government were right to say they had full confidence in him, because he didn't do anything wrong.

However, if the Americans refuse to deal with him, he can't really do his job.
He could have been posted elsewhere.
I believe each of those insulting words were extracted from messages over a long period, not said as one long tirade.
The major issue is what kind of scumbag would do such a thing in order to harm him, the country and Brexit?
Well said, Khandro. Trump is a sideshow. The bearded ladyhater if you will?
Pumpjack; one of the definitions of being a 'snowflake' is being thin skinned and unable to take insults without throwing one's toys out of the pram. Trump fits the bill to a 'T' and is the biggest snowflake ever to have set foot on the planet. In my most humble opinion, of course.
Agree with BA.
This is where the game of politics gets sticky.

As others have affirmed, most ambassadors have robust and not entirely complimentary views of the country with which they liaise - the difficulty occurs when, as in this case, such opinions are leaked to the wrong people.

The ambassador's views were clearly not meant to be heard by the US government, or the President, but they were, with predictable consequences.

The British government have been forced to back their man in order not to look like they can be bullied by the US, and fortunately, further damage is averted by his resignation, so everyone can calm down.

If President Trump is going to continue in his role, it's way past time that he realised that not everyone thinks he is as utterly fabulous as he thinks he is.

He realised that a long time ago and said as much. Keep up.
