Jim, //So far it seems that the Brexiter's idea of a deal is "we leave and you keep giving us everything we want you suckers". // They're not 'giving' us anything. We pay very dearly for our association with the EU. Be realistic. Since we buy far more from them than they buy from us, they are not going to refuse to trade with us. That really is nonsense!
I don't want a second referendum either and if there should be one, for the first time since I was 18 I'd have to think twice before casting my vote, will it be the best of three???
I am not quite sure that she says that she "wants" to, but from my recollection she says that she would be "amenable" to the idea.
She is rather an attractive women.....;-)
I'm so pleased that you're here to look out for me, Naomi :)
But yes, I completely see the logic in TTT's post. Once we've walked away from a deal that was negotiated over a period of a couple of years conducted at the highest levels, the EU will be very keen indeed to negotiate further deals with a clearly unreliable negotiating partner.
Jim, yes, indeed. It would be a terrible shame - devastating in fact - if they refused to sell us their cars and their wine, etc. We'd have to buy elsewhere. Tut.
Why bother with a trade deal with any country at all then? Or do you genuinely think that all a trade deal amounts to is "hey, we'll buy your stuff" printed a few hundred times?
so jim, you think the Germans wont want a deal to sell us their jam jars then? I think you underestimate the ability of business to cut through political dogma. No deal is just a device to get us out and in a position to do a deal. That was never going to be possible whilst we are in.
No defeatist at all, I'm just trying to understand your point -- which as best I can make out appears to be based on... well, nothing much of anything really.
