Republican.
i'm with you ,far to many hangers on x

So you'd be happy with a Trump type lauding it over us ? @Spath
Royalist.
Bobs, No.

But i'm more happy with an democratically elected head of state, rather than someone that was born and forced into the job due to their blood line.
Republican......and all those huge palaces to be used as tourist attractions and for the homeless......!
I'm a republican who's proud of our heritage and royalty.
Could never see the value of keeping the royals. Never really been keen on the Royal Family. Too many unnecessary protocols and formalities. Nah!
Bobbi, I notice you ‘ like ‘ the princes William and Harry. What do they actually ‘ do’ apart produce more royal children ?
Zacs, what have you got to be proud about?

I don't think you have had anything to do with heritage or royalty of our country.
Question Author
What do the princes do?
They work, they don't sit around on their backsides all day
/// all they do is produce children/// so do many more who don't work and I would say 3 isn't a conveyor belt of children!!!
4.
I'm proud of how we've stood up for ourselves over the centuries. At times it's been barbaric but we were no worse than other countries.
Royalist.

Anne - are you really suggesting that the princes' haven't worked?
Ummm, I’m asking what they actually ‘do’ for a living ?

Anniea,if you wanna nitpick, I meant 3&1
at the moment, no party with a realistic possibility of forming a government is campaigning on a republican platform. if there was, and assuming they won, it's not as simple as just legislating the hereditary head of state out of existence. for the UK monarch is also head of state of 16 other nations, including Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Papua New Guinea. all of them would need to agree; although several have held republican referendums in the past, none have come close to success.

once the collective memory of WW2 has gone and with it, the propaganda boost of George VI not legging it off somewhere safe, there might be more of a public appetite for a change. but not in my lifetime, I suspect.
Zacs, history is shaped by the winners. The British empire was nothing to be proud of. They committed atrocious crimes but the only thing going for them is the period they were in, where barbarianism was natural.
Question Author
Mushroom, I fervently hope the *collective* memory of Ww2 never leaves and is always remembered
Spath. I never said I was proud of all of our royal ancestry. There are obviously exceptions. The Imperialism debate has been done to death on here so I'll refrain from entering the 'it wasn't all bad' debate. Slavery was another aberration but there again, we were by no means alone in its deployment.
