It was the BBC who has decided to take them away. A sort of revenge measure because the government had effectively reduced the funding. The BBC could have reduced its costs- perhaps by not doubling up on presenters on TV and radio shows, or not paying such large salaries to get the top presenters, or not producing trashy programmes that commercial channels are at least as good at making, but the BBC preferred this as the main way of saving money.

'They' say they pay high salaries in-line with others to prevent them jumping ship to the others, that's all fine and dandy, but with the 'others' comes the choice of buying their wares or not.

If they are entitled to the credit they should already be receiving it. It is unconscionable that those entitled have the onus put on them to find out and apply. Those responsible for distributing others' rights should be making the contact and sorting it out.

The free TV licence fee for over 75s was an election bribe by Gordon Brown. As such, it was proper that the Government pay for it.
Oily Osborne shifting the responsibility to the broadcaster was a snide political act just as disgusting as Brown’s original bribe. It was effectively a £570million cut in the BBCs budget.

Obviously, the people who have been accepting the bribe feel aggrieved when the money dries up. But it is not something the tax payer or the licence fee payer should be funding.
