............ for illegal immigrants (possibly 1 million) who have resided in the UK for 15 years which would allow them British s citizenship and passports,
Do you agree with this ?
There is a government petition against this happening if you don't

// Actually I do agree with it, providing the 15 years rule is kept. //
I have a neighbour who keeps on ringing up the immigration police -

my own view is: let them get a job, feed themselves, and pay their taxes for chrissakes....I have never thought living off the DOSS is a great money maker
Just a punt using a bit of common ZM.

Can you prove otherwise?
I would have thought, using a bit of common sense, that looking into that many cases would be time consuming and therefore costly. I’d estimate it taking an average of 3 hours per case. This would be around 187,000 man days (based on half a million cases and an 8 hr working day). That would seem to suggest it wouldn’t be cheap.
In the grand scheme of things I would not call it expensive either.

No longer will they have to be searched for plus they will be paying taxes.
Ah, right.
"No longer will they have to be searched for" They`re not searched for, that`s the point.
I agree, as long as it is a one off chance for these people to come out and be 'legal'.
The Times says half a million, could be more, but this is not half a million coming in to the country, they are here now, so lets legalise them, get them paying taxes for what they are earning, and concentrate all our efforts on stopping any more illegals coming in, instead of chasing the ones that have been here for years.
11.10 , But he didnt want to pay the American Tax Man 50, 000 dollars + that he owed in Capital gains tax. That's why he renounced his American Citizenship. " " But he doesn't want to reside in the US, "" Neither do any immigrants want to reside in their own Countries either "Do You see any Difference",
how would they prove they have been here 15yrs, considering they are illegally here? and know it, meaning they are breaking the law.
and what have they been living on for 15 maybe yrs, dont say all working in some restaurant kitchen.. we have read recently of some albanian drug gang.. here mmm working illegally. no amnestly sends the wrong signal.

I agree with fender & sqad; how could you survive in Britain for 15 years+ without using false identities to access health care etc. or resorting to criminal activity?
The idea that given a passport, they would all go out and get regular jobs & start paying taxes is a bit naive to say the least.

/// If someone has managed to live in the UK undetected for that length of time presumably with no benefits ///

Do you really believe that they do not receive benefits? These illegals are quite organised if they have managed to remain undetected for so long, they must be in possession of false papers which allow them to receive benefits and the services of our NHS etc etc.

We are world known for being an easy touch.
Could this be the same Boris who the left have labelled a Racist?
Thanks for the reminder AOG.

A couple of choice examples. I can’t help but think the playing the white man is another of Boris’ acts like his faux buffoonery.

Good news! A solution to all our healthcare and infrastructure woes at one fell swoop.
Doctors and engineers by the thousands.

Rejoice!
Agree with it in principle as long as they ask everyone who comes forward to explain how they have managed to live under the radar for so long without detection and that may help us plug up some holes in our benefits and housing systems. Help us and we will help you. Seems fair enough to me.

Not a chance, if they are illegal get rid, no second chances.
I agree with the majority for a change and especially BD. If they have been self-sufficient all that time, then give them a chance, but be more careful in future.
A lot to consider. Boris may think that he is being pragmatic and clearing up the existing confusion. He may also think that it is a way of resetting the clock and intending to tighten up our border controls and immigration with more stringent action in future. But, very but, will these "new" legal immigrants have the right to promptly bring in dozens of "family members"? Will they be expected to pay back taxes and N.I. contributions like the rest of us would have to if we had been avoiding them? Amnesty? Will this be an amnesty for all crimes committed whilst they have been here illegally, not just the crime of gaining unauthorised entry? Not convinced that this is a good idea. Will it just encourage a replacement surge in illegal entrants who feel that if they can stay under the radar long enough they are home and hosed? Sign the petition time for me.
Signed.
Let the crime free, working ones stay - the criminals and skivers can go home.
