Well, I did leave an open question to AOG when i asked 'Do you mean, why are they making a big deal that she's Muslim?'

He's chosen not to clarify. Deliberately? Some might say so.
Agree with Deskdiary too.
Precisely...She is not the first female jockey, or the first British female jockey, but the first female muslim jockey. That is what makes it "news-worthy".

All part of the continuous quest for diversity that we constantly have shoved down our throats.

First Muslim jockey, first Muslim Mayor, first Black President etc etc.

I thought that we were all equal and that colour or religion shouldn't separate us?

I wonder if the lady had been a Buddhist, it would have been reported as such?

And woe betide if it had been a male only race.
AOG. The race is in support of a women's charity. The riders taking place are not professional jockeys and are obviously doing it to raise both funds and awareness for the charity. Woe betide anyone doing anything for charity.
'I thought that we were all equal and that colour or religion shouldn't separate us?'

Do you truly believe we're all equal then, AOG?
AOG// I thought that we were all equal and that colour or religion shouldn't separate us?//
Does that mean that you and a female Muslim jockey are equals?
Behave ZM, you'll have his head exploding :-)
Why are the religions of all the other female jockeys not such a big deal? Or is one religion more worthy or indeed fashionable than the other religions?
AOG - // All part of the continuous quest for diversity that we constantly have shoved down our throats. //

It wouldn't be 'shoved down our throats' here on AB, if you hadn't posted it!!

There's something of an irony about you, who complain most here about the curse of 'diversity', while simultaneously drawing our attention to it on a daily basis.
Togo - // Or is one religion more worthy or indeed fashionable than the other religions? //

For the Daily Mail it is!!!
'News' by its very definition is the reporting of things which are 'new'....an unusual occurence....something out of the ordinary, etc.

I think this event ticks all those boxes.
Togo, if one of the other religions achieved being the first of something noteworthy, then that also would be newsworthy.
I'm surprised they didn't post a picture of the winsome Victoria.

Always willing to highlight matters that the liberal elite, with their rose tinted specs and heads buried in the sand, would rather not see broadcast.

No problem - but you can't on the one hand 'highlight matters', and then on the other, complain that such 'matters' are 'rammed down our throats', when it is clearly yourself doing most of the … ahem … 'ramming'!
AOG, have you an answer for post at 14.40?
Funny that Danny I can hardly remember the religions of our other female jockeys being of prime importance when they were achieving "firsts". Do we think that they try to hard to convince us that the religion of peace holds a special place in our society, and why, if that is so. I hadn't realised either that it was only "reported" in the Daily Mail. Must remember to thank ah for that genuine revelation.

/// Ken, I think AOG's head exploded many years ago. It's the aftermath we're dealing with here. ///

Once again the master of abuse gets away with breaking the site's rules.

: We understand that debates get heated, but personal attacks and abusive language will not be tolerated :

If that is not yet another 'PERSONAL ATTACK', I don't know what is.

So why is it continuously ignored?
