Any of you ever been in a branch of Oak Furniture Land? Talk about over the top, gushing assistants. Greeted at the door with "how are you both enjoying your day so far?" then another woman appears saying "I missed you at the door, would you like a tea or coffee?" Then a bloke ask what bought us in the store today and can he help. We couldn't get out fast enough. Funnily enough there was not another customer in the whole place. I wonder why?

Another American import, have a nice day. Yeuk.
I can't stand that sort of place.
Aw! Give 'em a break. They are just trying to make a living.
SCS used to be like that, might still be for all I know. I only went in once !
Yes horselady as soon as salespeople start asking at door and don't accept that I am just browsing, I'm away.
Tilly2 yes staff are trying to earn some commission from sales, but the training department needs some training.
It's nice when the hospitality's genuine though.

If you walk into the wonderful Chapel Books in Westleton (which is probably my favourite secondhand bookshop in the country, the first thing that the proprietor, Bob Jackson ( https://tinyurl.com/y35pf54w ) is likely to say to you is "Tea or coffee?" There's no pressure to buy but, if you ask for help, you'll get it in abundance.
My daughter had 3 sideboards from them before she got a perfect one .The first one had scratches on it and second one had a couple of holes and a beetle thing fell out . She was just about to give up but she wanted it for a match . Pity I could not put the pics up. But she did get a good discount for the inconvenience .
Cool looking bookshop, Chris.

It's a sideboard we're looking for wendilla, sounds like we had a lucky escape!
Only been in OFL once after having looking at their furniture on-line. Was followed around the store for half an hour - every time I stopped to look at something an assistant almost fell over me. Exit stage left.
...pursued by bear!

I have to admit that I have never been in an Oak Furniture Land shop. Oak furniture is not my thing.
Give em a break Tilly2 another Americanism,,, yeuk yeuk
I’m of to get my chips from my trunk. (Crisps from the boot of my car):)
My laptop has all of a sudden come up with ads for Oak Furnitureland

I think maybe someone should have read the thread
I remember when we decided to replace all of our outdated furniture in our living room and we went to Oak Furniture Land. Don't get me wrong, it's good stuff but waaaaaay over priced in my opinion ..... approx £350 for a coffee table if my memory serves me right!!!!

We ended up getting all our stuff from the unlikeliest of places:
B & M Bargains.
1 coffee table, 1 TV unit, 1 sideboard and 2 x 5 drawer units.
I think we worked it out that the price was less than a third of what we were looking at in OFL ..... and the quality is quite good.

Go to https://www.bmstores.co.uk/ and type Wiltshire into the search box. Most of the products were in stock in our local store so you can see how good they are - well worth the money in my opinion :)
I ordered a sideboard from their website, i then went out shopping and was gone about 30 minutes, unbenown leaving my phone at home.

On my return, i saw that I'd had 4 missed calls, all from OFL.

Thinking there must be a problem with my order, i worriedly rang back only for them to say there was no problem but would i like to buy add ons like oil or wax.

I was so annoyed i nearly cancelled, but has put me off going there again.

I really like that furniture Gizmonster, definitely have to take a closer look at that.
You're not comparing like with like, Giz. Oak Furniture Land is solid hardwood, B&M is veneer.
well at least i know where to go for a free tea or coffee ...
//// You're not comparing like with like, Giz. Oak Furniture Land is solid hardwood, B&M is veneer. ////

Yea I know that :)
The quality of the stuff we got from B and M Bargains is quite good though and in my opinion, the stuff in OFL is not worth more than 3 times the price.
