RETRO, I hadn't read that link before I posed my question as I got stuck trying to read the link in your previous post.

Your second link mentions a 300-page report with a link to it so I had a quick skim of it. It devotes a section to the effect the use of guns has on crime and the various ways it can be measured. It is very technical and I would be lying if I said I understood the maths behind it.

However in the summary it says, "In summary, the committee concludes that existing research studies and data include a wealth of descriptive information on homicide, suicide, and firearms, but, because of the limitations of existing data and methods, do not credibly demonstrate a causal relationship between the ownership of firearms and the causes or prevention of criminal violence or suicide."

What they're saying is they can't tell either way. The calculation given in your link, is one figure and it may be backed by sound reasoning but I have no idea.
So where are all these good guys with a gun when the massacres are taking place - probably hiding behind the nearest car. No one needs battlefield weapons outside the battlefield.
// No one needs battlefield weapons outside the battlefield.//

With that I agree.
But one really must describe what they mean, accurately, by 'a battlefield weapon'.
Massacres, for obvious reasons, usually take place in gun free areas.
naomi - // //Why is it that no interviewer ever asks Mr Trump why any civilian needs to own an assault rifle? //

Or any other president? //

An absolutely fair point.

Any president in the post-war years undertakes the role knowing that he is shackled to the current gun laws, with no chance of even hinting at changing them while in office.

The only time any serving President will speak at all meaningfully about changing the gun laws is when he is in the last part of his second term, and politically, has nothing to lose.

Obama made a few insignificant noises, Trump will probably underline his support for gun ownership when his time comes.
Because Trump has an IQ that is only just above the official 'Moron' level ! Plus a large % of his electoral funding comes from the hand guns /arms industry !

What is the Official Moron Level please Eddie?
The problem is... it can only escalate. Once all police have tasers, say, all criminals need a gun. It just gets worse and worse.

I do a Mensa test every year, usually scoring 155 - 160, they seem happy with that.
I think Eddie was referring to Trump, though baldric. Who is clearly a few sandwiches short of a picnic.
Because most of Trump's electroral funding comes from the gun industry !! The answer is a forgone conclusion !
I think the offical 'Moron' level is 60. 'Normal is 100, Genius is 200'

// Because Trump has an IQ that is only just above the official 'Moron' level ! //

Yes it was that line ^^ that made me think that as well, I don't think Trump is quite that bad, but genius he ain't!
Say's he self financed his presidential campaign.
Although Donald Trump boasts he is self-financing his presidential campaign

Do you have a link about the gun industry funding him, EDDIE ?

// Genius is 200 //

Not Mensa then, their maximum awarded is 162.
'Chortle'
20 45, Baldric Do you mean a Densa Test ?.
//I think Eddie was referring to Trump, though baldric. Who is clearly a few sandwiches short of a picnic. //

Well if Eddie says it, it must be true....

Trump says that he does not want mentally unstable people getting their hands on guns so he proposes to conduct background checks on all buyers.
Aye right!! Does it not occur to him that if none of these weapons were available to buy there would be no need for these ineffective checks?
