After even Collaborator Oliver Letwin declared he'd rather no deal than let Agent Cob into No 10, is Jezza getting desparate?

What MPs who were thinking about voting for a VONC do with that information is up to them. I can't say I blame them for their hesitation, but it doesn't exactly bode well if Remain-supporting MPs can't unite even for a short time.
Alas what the whole of the lower house seem to have forgotten is that they were placed there by the people to represent the people's wishes, not their own beliefs, ideologies, egos or, personal ambitions. There was a democratic process by which (however slender a majority) the people said we must leave the EU.
I don’t think Jeremy Corbyn is serious about being PM until after a No Deal has crashed the economy so he hopes. And he can win the election that surely would follow.
Why would he want to be PM now? He says he does of course but he reminds me of someone asking in a way that he knows will be rejected.

If Boris Johnson lost a no confidence vote and then refused to call an election after the two weeks of failed attempts to form an alternative government that would inevitably follow, and then tried to do so in the throes of a No Deal Brexit, he would be displaying a degree of political recklessness of which I doubt even he is capable.
Jack, sorry, apparently it is now five weeks.

if a vote of no confidence were tabled on the 3rd September (the earliest it could happen) and voted on the same day, and carried, the house would have 14 days to seek an alternative government. only on paper though, effectively they've only got until the 13th (maybe 9 days at most) because the house clears off for the conference season after that. if on the 13th the house can't agree, then the PM calls an election, at the date of his choosing. But it must be no fewer than 25 working days after the announcement. which means it cannot happen before 24th October, assuming that the conference recess counts as working days. if it doesn't, it'll be even later. the EU would likely (but not certainly) grant an extension if an election were called, but would the PM request it?
