You did read that correctly.......The Beep Beep See is now offering the choice of 100 different gender identities....Crikey fakebook only offers a choice of 71. Now I think we all know males have and we know what women have.......what does the Beep Beep See think the other 98 have? Here we go looby loo.

He may have coined it, mamya, although I'm sure it was well before that. Even in Latin, they used masculine, feminine and neuter genders. Nothing to do with sex. So it is older than the hills really.

In my experience they never have differed until some wanted to claim they were a different sex and could be fully that sex if they lived as it and/or had an operation to physically mimic it. Like many words today, it seems some are trying to change meaning to suit their own agenda. If they want to discuss mental issues regarding not feeling the sex that they are they should find new language to describe it, not claim it's always meant that which they claim it means.

If he introduced it then, then he failed to get the public, who are the arbitrators of language, to agree with him. Should let it go and start a new set of words for mismatches of mental and physical. In any case folk can feel however they feel. The new concept isn't that useful as this 100 gender thing indicates. Maybe best to just drop it altogether and speak sense instead.

Yes- but the other way around, og. Those two words have always meant different things and different concepts. I did this in Psychology in 1995ish- and obviously it was nothing new then.
More recently, people have started using the word "gender" when they mean sex- and I can remember noticing it, it really was quite recent. And that seems to have confused an awful lot of people since. Look at any of these kind of threads, and a lot of people say one, meaning the other. That is confusion, because it is a mistake. Surely making things clear and accurate is the way forward...?

Out of interest, og... if we start pretending sex and gender are the same thing... how would that make things better instead of worse? The biggest problem is that people assume they should be the same, which is quite irrational, but the language now used, encourages it.

Oh dear... lol. There is nothing "pandering" about it DD. There are only 2 sexes. That's it. Nobody can ever change from one to the other. If you have a Y chromosome, you are male and always will be.
Personalities are different... naturally. That does not, in any way, mean a male can become a female or vice versa. I can't help you all with your ability to read... but the "pandering" is allowing one sex to pretend to be the other. Completely wrong. It is not me who is confused, David...
