Surely all that will do is generate a GE which jezza and co are desparate to avoid.
Could we have the unusual situation of the Tories voting for a VONC and Labour against? The VBQC are Still Zugswanged.

The SNP are keener on an election than the other parties as they know Boris Johnson is a big vote winner for them in Scotland. In fact looking at it cynically you might say Brexit is also a spur to their cause of independence.
And Alex Salmond goes on trial soon: they might want to get an election over before that.
A VONC called by a minor opposition party would not normally be given debate time.
You feel this one if it happens might.

It’s not up to the Speaker to call a VONC.
And why would he stop it? That would be bizarre.

Anyway OG is right: if an alternative government is formed which can pass a VOC then there is no need for an election. A big “if” maybe but it’s the case.

The PM cannot force an election under the FTPA. He is trapped in office (oh the irony) until he can get a two thirds vote for an election or an alternative government fails to win a vote of confidence. That may be quite likely to happen but it is not within his direct power to make it so.

I believe Ms Sturgeon's plan is to form a temporary, time-limited alliance with Labour and install JC as Prime Minister. This is purely (so she says) to avoid No Deal. Of course as any fule noes, the aim is to prevent Brexit entirely (if only they were honest).

Quite what all this has to do with Ms Sturgeon is anybody's guess as she is not a Member of Parliament.

Ah yes I remember that, but that was an attempt by a private member to force a vote of confidence in the prime minister personally rather than the government - before he had even taken office.
And not surprisingly the Speaker disallowed it. An act, of course, favouring Mr Johnson at the time.

Ich, it is up to the Speaker which motions are accepted and which are not.

It is of course but he’s not going to disallow a vote of no confidence.
He might disallow a VONC in itself by the government as it would be a motion plainly not doing what it claimed to do on the tin.
It would be interesting to see if the govt granted a VONC from the SNP debate time.

the lib non dems have already said they won't support labour so following a VONC in the governemnt, no other government will have enough to pass a VONC within 14 days. GE, PM moves date after Halloween, checkmate Boris!

The Lib Dems have said they won’t support Corbyn as PM. Corbyn himself has said he doesn’t rule out standing aside for someone else.

The confrontation began when those who previously said they would implement Brexit (at least twice) decided instead they would do all they could to obstruct it. There would be no confrontation had they kept to their pledges.
