The age for retirement, was originally the same as life expectancy (1938- 60 years old for both). The only people who could expect to retire at all, were genuinely "elderly" (ie above average life expectancy). Re Woofgang at 14.42. I also am of an age when, if you were married, you paid 'Married Women's Contributions'. Then this stopped and we paid normal contributions - but that meant we had wasted YEARS towards our pensions. I was most certainly never warned that after that, things would change. I was fortunate and squeaked in by a few months. Changing the rules 3/4 of the way through is simply not fair. Men at least knew where they were - we were told differently, but that it was O.K.. Suddenly it wasn't. That's what's wrong.

As my post points out, this is nothing to do with 'equality' - it is to do with unfair treatment of women simply on the basis that they are women - where is the 'equality' in that?
