Line 27 - Field ambulance ?
shoota, as read from diary. If you want to read the complete diary contact me via waterboatman.
I've changed my avatar to respect those that have fallen before, (Snowflaes have no idea) I'm' young on many fronts... but no disrepect to Spurs for not wearing a poopy on their shirt team.
Damn those poopy snowflaes!
The FA are even worse ;-)
This original post was quite possibly a mean spirited and misguided troll for all I know by someone who just doesn’t like a particular team.
The observation at 18.29 is particularly despicable.
Corby gave the answer to the query about 40 posts ago, and the fact that it was not accepted with gratitude rather suggests I’m right about the above.
i bought an enamel poppy pin and will wear it with pride come November 11th.
I’d be interested to know , how much money is collected at this time, how it is spent, do the BL invest their money and who with, and how much cash is currently in their account/accounts ?
Tambo; did you get permission to publish that extract from the diary?
I have yet to buy a poppy - i may not even do so - but i have thrown my loose change in at least 4 'selling points' as i leave certain stores, without taking the offered poppy. And i am also involved year in, year out, raising money for the British Legion by selling raffle tickets in my local neighbourhood. Oh yeah, and i am also in the BL monthly draw and have been for the last 5 years or so. So, if you see me and i'm not wearing a poppy, please don't presume that i don't care. Thank you.
Is there a limit on the number of poppy sellers the British Legion can put on the streets in a medium-sized market town? They seem to be every few yards and it's annoying when they give you the evils for not stopping and buying and for not wearing a poppy in the first place.
I don’t wear a poppy - not because I don’t care about those who fought in the war. I choose to give my money to other charities some of which are probably helping the survivors and their descendants in other ways.

Anyway, wasn’t there a bit of a hooha about a football team wearing poppies on their shirts recently? It was judged to be a political statement so wasn’t allowed. Have the rules changed?
Diddlydo, any Poppy seller, indeed any charity collector who acts in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable should be reported.

In this instance give location to the nearest RBL Branch.
Ken, I do have permission.
Cloverjo; what you refer to was when England were to meet Scotland on the football pitch in a World Cup qualifier in 2016 on Nov 11. Both sides made a request to FIFA to wear poppies on their kit. Their requests were denied but both sides - along with Wales and N Ireland - defied FIFA by wearing black armbands with a red poppy on them. The 4 were fines a total of £80,000 (Engand - £35,000).
Thanks ken. Yes that was it. Have the rules changed, or is it the decision of a different body?
I’ve no problem at all for those not wishing to wear the poppy, got to be their choice, it’s wrong to inflict your views on someone else, I’m happy to wear my poppy with pride but that’s my choice
As for the Everton side wearing their poppies "with pride"? Do you know that for a fact, ynnafymmi? I only ask because the poppies were printed/sewn on to their shirts (so they could hardly refuse to wear them) and only 5 of the Everton line up were Brits. The rest were made up of 2 Frenchmen, a Brazalian, a Nigerian, a Colombian and a Portuguese.
Diarist saw the zeppelin meet its fate in Billericay 1916.

^^just to whet your appetite ;)

Anyone know about book publishing?

Scuse me yanna for encroaching your thread.
I would be interested in the diary Tambs, I have read a lot about the two WW's, especially first hand accounts which can be harrowing and hard going.
I'll wait until I see WBM around and tap him on the shoulder...
