True; but 'things' like words change their meaning (or resonance) with the passage of time. e.g. Take the word, 'gay' which up to the middle of the 20th century meant light-hearted, but now it can't really be used in that way at all since it has been appropriated by the homosexual lobby who have also, much to my annoyance, grabbed the 6 colours of the spectrum as their emblem.
You of course, can wear what you like, but I merely wanted to point out that since the days of Stirling (my Dad was 4 years there btw) a lot has happened, the scarf has been associated in many minds with Yasser Arafat & his PLO etc. & whether you want it or not, wearing it sends out a signal - to many minds - that you are sympathetic to the terrorist organizations dedicated to the overthrow and annihilation of Israel & that is why it has ceased to be, as it says in a link above, 'a fashion accessory'.

Yes, the swastika, often reversed, is a symbol of the sun & also peace in old India where it would be perfectly reasonable to have it painted on the wall of one's house & elsewhere.
