Heard In Sainsburys
In Sainsburys this morning I saw and heard a man whistling a tune.

I know where you're coming from Derek. It is a very rare occurence in these times to hear a man whistling a tune. Young one probably couldn't, or haven't got time. (unless their phones would do it for them)

//Mamyalynne - whistle a happy tune...//
not always a good idea, happy whistling - From Emo Phillips -
"Houses make strange noises at night like creak, groan and “Emo, I’m going to kill you.” …So I remembered what my mother told me, “Whenever you feel afraid just whistle a happy tune… " [whistling] …then I felt a hand around my throat and a voice said, “Thanks. I was having difficulty locating you in the dark.”"

Spot on, Spotty.
It was such a rare sight. People just don't whistle anymore, largely because most modern music is tuneless, I suppose.
I'm knocking on a bit now and in my younger working days whistling when one was busy was a sign of happy contentment, as you seem to suggest, Marcel.
Cheers. D.
PS. I've just had a go and managed to whistle Land of Hope and Glory right through- but I had to wet the whistle, first .
