Clegg, Cameron and May should hang their heads in shame for allowing on their watch so much poverty and homelessness particularly affecting children.
It is correctly described as a national scandal.
Under the Tories, being poor is a crime and punished with even more poverty.
Unless Boris is made of different stuff, how can he expect support from anybody with a social conscience?

Its been said many times before, but there are more families now that put themselves in poverty, they would prefer to have a top of the range phone, TV, fags, drugs, and drink, but go to the food bank for food, and don't pay their rent, then wonder why their kids suffer.
Rockrose, //Was there no poverty or child homelessness when Labour were in charge then? //

There must have been. The first food banks came into being on Labour's watch.

Teacake - Ah right! That explains it. Never thought of that. Thanks for the in depth authoritative analysis of the problem.
Should be easy to fix then eh?
Theland, that many are responsible for their situation is an uncomfortable truth ... but the truth nonetheless.
Question Author
Many? How many? Half, a quarter, a tenth?
No idea. What do you think?
Question Author
Naomi - As you know, there are several aspects to poverty, and figures to illustrate them abound from government departments and charities.
But why ask me to prove them?
They are there for everybody to read.
To deny there is a massive problem is simply wilful indifference and illustrates a rather shameful callousness.
Theland, don’t be so damned rude. You don’t know me, you know nothing about me, and you don’t hold the monopoly on altruism. I didn’t ask you to prove anything - I asked you what you thought. Do us all a favour and get over yourself.
Clearly the poor aren't poor enough for Naomi's taste.

Yup. Definitely a Tory.
Mozz, Thats a horrible thing to say and hardly fair to accuse me without explanation. Over to you.
no reply Naomi, it was a horrible thing to put..
No more than I expect from the unthinking, emmie.
Question Author
Not rude at all, my opinion of the tone of yours.
Truly, I do not have a monopoly on altruism, but I do back away from posting opinions that blame the poor for their own circumstances.
"Are there no prisons? Workhouses? The treadmill still operating?"
Theland, //I do back away from posting opinions that blame the poor for their own circumstances. //

If some of them are responsible for their own circumstances - and some of them are - why do you back away? Does the truth not sit confortably with you?

And yes, you are rude.
*comfortably*
Question Author
Naomi - Yes, some are feckless and responsible for their own circumstances.
Some turn to low level crime, shoplifting, bike theft, car break in etc etc, and a whole economy grows up around them. Fiddling the meters, renting out such skills to others, and generally getting by without the need or the desire to work.
In all of that, and others not mentioned but inferred, you are quite right, as are others who have said similar.
But these remain in my opinion, a minority, sizeable but still a minority.
So you acknowledge the truth, Theland. I won't hold my breath for a apology for your appalling post last night.
Sadly we now live in a country were we have a lot of conmen, cheats, cowboys, all in all we have a large percentage of people all trying to rip each other of for as much as they can. A good example of one area, are private landlords, they have been ripping off the benefits department for years, in turn creating homelessness.
Theland writes 'Many? How many? Half, a quarter, a tenth?' and then states 'there are several aspects to poverty, and figures to illustrate them abound from government departments and charities. But why ask me to prove them?
They are there for everybody to read.'

Do you actually remember what you write from one second to the next, Theland. You seem to have a butterfly like problem with your reasoning.
