Ironic that the seat result 326, the one that gets Boris over the line, is Bolsover! Sorry Dennis, your boys took a beating!

gromit: "Tora,
From the day the election was called, I predicted a Conservative victory :-) " - you said they'd get the most seats, sure but you were miles out.
10ClarionSt, stop with your nonsensical excuses. Just stop. Brexit has been shamefully thwarted from all sides. Time to stop smarting, to accept defeat, and move on. You lost.

I understand Dennis Skinner was ill and wasn't at the declaration.
YMB - // An excellent result. Looks like the young didn't all vote labour when they actually got to the booth. //

For every idealistic young voter seduced by the promise of free broadband and no student debt, there would be ten more seasoned citizens who have been around a bit longer, and possess a more rational grasp on the realities of Labour's policies - and that is reflected in the result.
I don't honestly think that is a problem. Whichever way an 18 year old votes, they may well have changed their mind by the next election. But they probably are still representing the next few years of 18 year olds growing up.

//yes he has held the seat for over 40 years.//

and that's about his major achievement as a politician
I haven't heard much from Ken Clarke or Heseltine either. John MacDonnell hasn't said a lot either. Poor things must be shock.
surprised that Tarzan hasn't fallen out of his tree.
Emmie;

'Michael Heseltine, the europhile former deputy prime minister, has admitted that the battle for Britain to remain in the European Union has been lost.

The 86-year-old - who lost the Tory whip after urging people to vote against his party to stop Brexit - fears it will be 20 years before the issue of rejoining the EU is raised again.'

Today's Telegraph
Just 2 decades ? I seem to recall we were in much longer than that before we made a decision as the whether to stay.
surely once we are out that's it, no rejoining in 20 years time..
In 20 years time, even sooner, the EU will be a different entity, if that entity resembles the EEC, gets rid of all federal ambitions, then perhaps the UK would join, if it was advantageous.
Perhaps he was talking about Scotland emmie.
Brexit meant nothing to me in this election. I've said lots of times that I don't care if we're in or out of the EU. It won't make any difference to ordinary members of the public like us, the great unwashed.
clarion: I didn't know the great unwashed played golf! :0)
'......... a third new MP, Mark Fletcher, who ousted 87-year-old Dennis Skinner from the seat of Bolsover, Derbyshire, which the veteran Labour politician had held for 49 years, said he found locals "delighted" just to discover a candidate taking an interest in them.'
Telegraph

Seems like "the beast" was really nothing but a mouse!
If he was a mouse, it took them long enough to get rid of him.
it did, but he has gone now and they must look forward, not backwards.
Well Scargill is still squatting in Luxury in a NUM apartment in the Barbican. What did he ever do to get that?
The answer to that retro, lies with the people who elected him. They obviously had more contact with him than you did.
