//Now it looks like we have actually won (as opposed to a technical win) you complain we are bad winners//
I've been insulted, abused, belittled and threatened in the past for having a different opinion to others. You bet that some Brexiteers are bad winners.
Even after (reluctantly) accepting the result, there seems to be no end of Brexiteers who take delight in rubbing my nose in it.
//Why in the world would anyone criticise authorities for banning the use of chemicals known to be hazardous to human health?//
We're regressing by >3 years, Hymie. But in case you've forgotten: Brexiteers do not criticise "the authorities" for what they do. They criticise them for having the power to do it. In fact, they do not recognise the EU as "the authorities" at all. If you're not content to allow the UK "authorities" to make the necessary regulations and would prefer that responsibility contracted out to a foreign institution then perhaps the UK isn't the place for you.
Spicerack, what's wrong with that????
I am sure we will regret paying out and it won't stop once we leave.
The EU know what side their croissant is buttered and will keep us hanging on or tied in.
Apart from the economics, is it it not a good thing to have left the EU where the leadership is not elected but appointed?
Think of how this could be abused like other totalitarian powers in the past.
Leaving has a cultural benefit that is priceless.
NJ – You are right, I would rather that those who have power over regulations impacting my life had an interest in my well being; time and time again the EU has demonstrated just that.
I’m willing to bet that the UK will opt out of the Working time Directive at the earliest opportunity.
An employee is free to opt out of the Working time Directive, if they so choose – and work any hours they like (with the proviso they do not breach any other limitations in place).
//I’m willing to bet that the UK will opt out of the Working time Directive at the earliest opportunity.//
I hope it does - if the UK Parliament decides it should. The WTD does not compel workers to work long hours but simply restricts them from earning more by working longer if they want to.
But once again, it isn't the substance of the controls that trouble me, it is that an institution over which the UK has next to no control can introduce such legislation that is binding on the UK. As I said if you do not trust the UK Parliament to act in your best interests then maybe the UK is not the place for you. I'm far more fearful of an unelected Commission introducing legislation that might affect me than I am of an elected UK government. So are many other people and that's one of the main reasons so many people voted to leave the EU.
