Every house to have access to a fruit tree. Two million trees could be planted on the streets of towns and cities under Boris Johnson's plan to brighten up Britain. New houses should be fitted with special bricks to encourage birds and bees to settle in urban areas.
I think this will be brilliant. What do you think?
What astonishes me is not only do you appear to have no qualms about criminally destroying the nest of one nature's universally recognised marvels, you seem to brag about it & think the fact that you put out a few nuts for squirrels is a form of compensation for which should be applauded.
Loads of birds all crapping on your car and washing, etc. What could be nicer ?
If they're planted on the streets they must be public property, and so surely individuals aren't allowed to go pick them any more than they are allowed to pick the flowers in a public garden ?
How//why on an amiable thread has a post been removed? Surely it couldn't have been that bad. One thread after another ruined. Go on, remove this one now.
****d off of Hove:-(
OG //surely individuals aren't allowed to go pick them//
The local authority may take the view that it would be better to allow the fruit to be picked rather than go to waste.
No councils can afford to employ anyone to empty hundreds of street bins on a regular basis. They're also (I believe) deemed to be places where bombs can be hidden.
B&H council couldn't that's for sure. They can't even empty the bins we've got. Ours got emptied for the first time this year, yesterday.
I think it should be trialled in some areas first but the bee bricks should come into force straight away. I bit of poo on a window ledge is nothing compared to the good the bees would do plus they need all the help they can get.
Growing trees is a good idea, nothing like a nice Avenue. Fruit trees probably not such a good idea but ok in parks etc.
The problem where I liv is the seagulls. They just attack anything that comes along so we are left with seaguls a couple of fat pigeons and some magpies. Shame really as I rather like birds.
Get plenty of bees though as I plant lots of flowers.
Why not a few fruit trees - and people could pick the fruit? In Todmorden (Yorks./Lancs. border) there have been - for some years now - roundabouts and verges planted with veg., and people can help themselves. Cherry trees are decorative and productive, apple & pear trees also. Get on with it is my opinion.
Like zacs, we had swallows last summer, and got rid of the nest as soon as I could with a bloody long pole. Couldn't have cared less if there were eggs in there (as it happens there weren't), I wasn't going to have a summer-long crapped-on window.

That's one of the most appalling things I've ever read on AB.
I hold no brief for Zacsmaster, but he didn't say he destroyed the nest as you did.
Bad Karma!
