Every house to have access to a fruit tree. Two million trees could be planted on the streets of towns and cities under Boris Johnson's plan to brighten up Britain. New houses should be fitted with special bricks to encourage birds and bees to settle in urban areas.
I think this will be brilliant. What do you think?

What astonishes me is not only do you appear to have no qualms about criminally destroying the nest of one nature's universally recognised marvels, you seem to brag about it & think the fact that you put out a few nuts for squirrels is a form of compensation for which should be applauded.

There would be no birds if we all did what you did DD. What a terrible thing to do and against the law as you probably knew.
Swallows and their nests are fully protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, which makes it illegal to intentionally kill, injure or take any migratory bird. It is illegal to intentionally damage or destroy the nest, eggs, or young of a swallow while it is being built or in use.
ladybirder; I'd give you best answer, but it's your thread

How funny you should say that Khandro ...
I’m with Deskdiary here. I couldn’t put up with filth and flees for weeks on end.
As soon as they start to build a nest, I hose it down before it takes shape. They usually try another couple of times, but soon give up and go elsewhere.

I like seeing the wildlife that visit my garden, and I’ll happily clean up bird poo from elsewhere, but having a window and ledge caked for weeks at a time is just yuk. Plus, you can’t open the window as you don’t know what might come in.

Shame on you. These stunning little birds fly here each spring from Africa, an epic journey for such small creatures, and they often cover 200 miles a day. I would give my eye teeth to have them crap all over my window ledge. Why don't you just hose the window ledge down, not our beautiful majestic swallows?
Because by the time they’ve crapped, the filth and flees are already there!
I’m well aware of the journey they make, but if it’s a toss up between their mess and my hygiene, then it’s no contest.
Like I say, I do it before it gets too far, and they soon find somewhere else.
You may be happy to live with that sort of mess. I’m not, so I won’t be wearing your badge of shame.

I wouldn't live with the mess I would hose it down every day as you could. However I can see I'm wasting my time so bye.
You can’t hose down an upstairs window ledge properly from ground level, and the flees won't just sit invisibly on the ledge, they'll soon spread.
As far as building nests on my house goes, yes you are wasting your time. It’s a pity you didn’t bother to ask what it is I do for wildlife, then maybe you wouldn’t have been so judgemental on just one action/opinion.
Where are these flees(fleas?) BB. On the birds or in the crap.
Genuine question (not being funny). Do birds have fleas that transfer to humans?
This is incredible, two criminal morons on one thread.
Oh, derr. Of course it’s “fleas”!!
I’m pretty sure birds have fleas and ticks, and I really couldn’t care less if they transfer to humans, just the thought of them getting in/being around the house is enough for me.
Just had a quick look.
Lice and mites.
That's flea-tastic enough for me!
Now I think about it, wasn't that the reason they had 'mud baths'.
"Shame on you."

I feel no shame.
Oh get a grip, Khandro.
Another pillock who doesn’t bother to find out just how much I do for wildlife.
Just in case you are interested, my freezer usually has more bird/squirrel food in it than human food.
x-posted.
//my freezer usually has more bird/squirrel food in it than human food.//

So that's what you live on.
Yep.
I just love peanuts, suet pellets, dried mealworms and breadcrumbs mixed into lard.
And when I buy live worms, well, I just can’t get enough.

Grow up.

No bragging here, just trying to get a rude arrogant man who can’t cope when someone doesn’t agree with him, to see that not wanting to do one thing, doesn’t mean that I don’t do other things.
I’ll leave you to your judgemental nastiness. I’d hate to be the cause of your having a coronary over something so trivial.
