According to the health department, every NHS hospital as got to set up a coronavirus pod, beds set aside just in case. When the health minister was asked if we are prepared for such an out break, his answer was we already have 500 beds set aside ready. Does he really think that's enough considering how fast this spreads, regardless of the fact that we cannot cope with normal numbers of winter flue. Who they kidding.

How many are in quarantine at the moment? How many beds do you think will be needed?

If your looking for conflict Naomi, you won't get it here, just making a point.
Beds? That is the least of our worries if this takes hold. Have we got enough crematoriums or graveyard plots?
Teacake, you were asked how many beds you think there should and on what do you base that figure.Do you not think that a risk assessment will have been made and the amount of beds required bases on that assessment?.
teacake, I'm not looking for conflict. Just asking you how many beds should, in your estimation, be set aside. If you think 500 isn't enough, how many would you be happy with?

^^ as per 12.51
Ths pods are for NHS England only and I suspect it's the same for the 500 beds.
Okay teacake, you don't know. You're just having a moan at the government.
Some patients despite being given a terminal diagnosis have a good enough renal function to allow their chemotherapy, or rather the related hydration bags of fluid to be given faster than recommended. Always decided by a senior clinician and usually done so a patient can get out of hospital early for a family event. sometimes the inpatient chemo can be converted to out patient too especially if on-site accommodation is available.
Teacake you cannot moan about only 500 beds not being enough and then not give your opinion on the magnitude you think would be appropriate.

500 being ready seems reasonable to me - at the moment. These will be for immediate occupation. If we get an outbreak then no doubt more will be set aside. And yes, it will mean cancelled appointments.

My mother spent 3 weeks in hospital just before Christmas, 2 of those weeks was just waiting for a care package to be put in place, so if we have a problem just sorting that, what chance of sorting anything else, and we've not even had a bad winter yet.
The quarantine period is at least two weeks. If folk are fine, the beds will then be made available to others who may have contracted the virus.
Christmas and a care package. You are comparing apples and pears.

I am guessing you have a beef about the NHS? Perhaps look into what has to happen with care packages before sounding off one wasnt there immediately?
TEACAKE, how many proven cases are there in the UK at the moment?

You don't wait for the invading army to appear over the hill before you start making guns. :0)
Teacake. could you reply to post at 12.55.
And you do not fire those guns before you have a target.
Teacake, its not beds its staff. There are funds that are pulled from other pots of cash to employ extra staff and hire extra equipment in case of pandemic, war and so on...I remember the planning when the Falklands was happening. It s not recurrent funds and if you use it too soon or for other things then it wont be there for when its really needed. I agree that the NHS all over needs a drastic overhaul but that and disaster emergency planning are two different topics
They have 500 beds earmarked, if that is not enough, his many more should there be?

Do you expect hospitals to turf out the less sick patients just in case the beds may be needed for those who may or may not have the virus?
Teacake who was supposed to supply the care package? Nhs or the council?
